Job description

We are seeking a SampleMaker/Sewer for a top Atelier in NYC. Seeking experienced sewers that have true sample making experience and strong understanding of finishings - not only a background focusing more on alterations.The sample maker is responsible for the execution of concepts, trials, prototypes and high quality samples. This includes sewing of all prototypes and various garment samples for Runway Show, Press Sample and preseason sales samples.

Responsibilities:
  • Constructs one-of-a-kind garments to the pattern and/or draping specifications of the Collection Design Team
  • Provides expert finishing and tailoring of specialty garments
  • Collaborate closely with patternmakers and designers to ensure design intent is achieved
  • Ensures the highest possible level of quality and standards in keeping with the brand and image.
  • Responsible for being part of the creative process.
  • Develops new and innovative solutions to garment construction in tandem with design concepts.

Required Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Proven experience as a seamstress or sample maker in an Atelier environment
  • Strong knowledge of fine fabrics, trims, sewing techniques and garment construction
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in luxury, ready to wear
  • Some Patternmaking knowledge preferred
  • Education: Courses in patternmaking and garment construction preferred.

Skills:
  • Excellent handwork skills, including hand and machine sewing.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly developed standards of excellence with garment sewing and fit
  • Highly skilled sewer with expertise in techniques and construction
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet critical deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with luxury and innovative fabrics
  • Creativity, Flexibility, adaptability, initiative.
  • Ability to work long hours when needed
