SUMMARY/SCOPE:
Student Social MediaManager (English Department) Supportthe launch and growth of the English Department's Instagram presence to engagecurrent and prospective students, highlight courses and community, andcommunicate career pathways for English majors. Working closely with theDepartment Chair, this position plans and publishes 2-3 posts per week, adaptsdepartment messaging for social media, and tracks basic performance to informfuture content. Flexible hours; some event coverage as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, draft, and schedule 2-3 Instagram posts per week (Reels, carousels, Stories, captions).
Maintain a simple monthly content calendar aligned with department events, deadlines, and recruitment cycles.
Collaborate with the Chair to prioritize themes and ensure messaging accuracy and tone.
Adapt department materials (class highlights, student/faculty spotlights, outcomes/careers, events) for social media.
Capture/curate light photo and short-form video; request assets from faculty, students, and alumni when needed.
Add alt text, captions, and basic accessibility features to posts.
Follow university brand, FERPA, and consent practices; obtain photo permissions as needed.
Track basic analytics (reach, profile visits, saves, shares, follower growth) and submit a short monthly recap with ideas for improvement.
Uphold a positive, student-forward voice consistent with department values.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Current HSU student in good standing.
Demonstrated experience creating social media content (personal, club/org, class project, internship, or freelance).
Strong writing/editing skills and attention to detail.
Familiarity with Instagram best practices (Reels, carousels, Stories, hashtags, alt text, captions).
Ability to meet weekly deadlines and manage a basic content calendar.
Portfolio or 2-4 sample posts/links showing relevant work.
