Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Design Engineer – Interior Trims & Materials to strengthen our team in Sweden.

The Role

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of Floor Systems, Luggage Compartment Systems, and Overhead Interior Systems. You will translate product requirements and performance criteria into robust engineering solutions, CAD models, and technical specifications.

This role focuses on the engineering and design of automotive interior trim components, ensuring that products are manufacturable, cost-effective, compliant with regulations, and delivered according to project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of interior trim systems, including:

  • Floor systems
  • Luggage compartment systems
  • Overhead systems
  • Carpets
  • Absorbents
  • Insulations
  • Load floors
  • Headliners
  • Associated plastic components

Develop engineering concepts and convert them into detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5.

Create and maintain CAD data, master sections, and engineering documentation.

Ensure tooling feasibility and manufacturing requirements are incorporated into the design process.

Collaborate with manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure product feasibility and successful industrialization.

Support material selection activities considering durability, performance, aesthetics, sustainability, and cost.

Optimize designs for packaging, weight, cost, quality, and performance targets.

Support physical and virtual validation activities.

Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry standards, safety regulations, and quality expectations.

Release engineering drawings, CAD models, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Lead design reviews and technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

Support DFMEA, DVP, DFA, and DFM activities throughout the development process.

Ensure all project deliverables are completed according to agreed timelines and milestones.

Identify project risks and contribute to continuous improvement through lessons learned and technical reports.

Provide technical guidance and coordinate activities within the engineering team when required.

Required Experience & Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience

Minimum 5–8 years of experience in automotive product development.

Strong experience in the design and development of automotive interior trim systems and components.

Proven expertise in:

  • Floor systems
  • Luggage compartment trim
  • Carpets
  • Absorbents
  • Insulations
  • Load floor systems
  • Headliners

Extensive hands‑on experience with:

  • CATIA V5
  • Teamcenter (TCe)
Technical Knowledge
  • Interior trim regulations and automotive standards.
  • Plastic injection moulding design and tooling processes.
  • Manufacturing processes for interior trim components.
  • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Component drawings, engineering standards, and design guidelines.
  • DFMEA, DVP, DFA, and DFM methodologies.
  • Product development and project delivery processes.
Additional Qualifications
  • Experience working with global OEMs and cross-functional teams is highly desirable.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly plastics and composite materials.
