We are looking for a Mainframe Systems Programmer to support and optimize the AS400 and Mac-Pac environment that serves teams across the organization in Farmington Hills, Michigan. This role focuses on system reliability, application changes, platform enhancements, and daily operational processing while helping ensure stable telecommunications support. The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, collaborates well with cross-functional partners, and approaches problem solving with a disciplined, service-oriented mindset.
Responsibilities:
• Configure, maintain, and enhance the AS400 and Mac-Pac platform to support business operations across sales, engineering, manufacturing, distribution, and related functions.
• Apply application updates, coordinate operating system improvements, and manage ongoing technical changes to keep the environment secure and dependable.
• Monitor daily electronic order processing and resolve system issues quickly to minimize disruption to business activities.
• Investigate recurring incidents, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions that improve long-term system performance.
• Assess current system settings and workflows, then recommend practical improvements that align technical capabilities with operational needs.
• Partner with internal departments and external vendors to address support needs, communicate technical issues clearly, and deliver effective solutions.
• Contribute to the upkeep of the company telecommunications environment to help maintain reliable connectivity and communication services.
• Maintain organized, safe, and efficient work practices while supporting additional programming and system-related assignments as needed.• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience supporting AS400 environments and working with Mac-Pac software.
• Working knowledge of RPG, including AS400 RPG and Report Program Generator development or support.
• Familiarity with IBM mainframe or mainframe application environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and balance project work with day-to-day production support responsibilities.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze system behavior and resolve technical issues methodically.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work well across departments and with vendors.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
