Job Description – Applications Engineer

Job Title: On-Site Applications Engineer

Location: Waupaca, WI

Department: Commercial US/Canada

Reports To: Commercial Manager

Purpose: The On-Site Applications Engineer is the technical liaison between Foseco and a key strategic customer. This role will be based at the customer site daily to provide technical support for Foseco products and help identify new opportunities. In addition to these technical responsibilities, they will assist in developing, administering, and executing the Ferrous Foundry marketing strategies. The technical knowledge and skills of the Applications Engineer play a pivotal role in Foseco’s market differentiation strategies.

Direct Reports: No direct reports; however, the position holder will provide technical insight and market direction as needed to other team members.

Dimensions of Position: Applications Engineers are the technical voice of the customer and provide insight into developing customer market strategies that increase Foseco’s customer value. Applications Engineers provide marketing and engineering support to strategic business segments where significant new business growth expectations have been identified.

Key Result Areas:

  • Work in collaboration with Account Executives to identify and execute optimization opportunities within customer’s facilities. This includes presenting optimization solution proposals supported by CAD–CAFIS and MAGMASOFT simulation.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to customers in the form of the metallurgical, production process, gating, risering, pattern layout, product applications, and casting defect analysis.
  • Participate in Product Management, Product Development and Operation Teams in developing and commercializing new product designs.
  • Develop and present technical papers and seminars. Introduce product innovations and promote new technologies to customers and at Foundry Association Events.
  • Develop and maintain project plans and time management schedules.
  • Provide comprehensive technical reports on customer projects.
  • This position will be based at the customers’ main location with up to 10-20% travel to other customer sites or other Foseco customers as needed.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or science discipline. Preferably Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.

Experience: 5+ years of Ferrous metals casting experience and foundry processes. Knowledge of modern foundry gating and risering practices and influencing factors, along with experience using refractory coatings in foundry settings. Experience in Six SIGMA and Lean is a plus.
