What are foundations in construction?

Foundations in construction are the structural elements that transfer the load of a building or structure to the ground, ensuring stability and safety. They support the weight of the entire structure and help prevent settling, shifting, or collapse by distributing the load evenly across the soil or bedrock. There are several types of foundations, including shallow foundations like spread footings and deep foundations like piles, chosen based on soil conditions and the size of the project. Proper foundation design and construction are critical to the longevity and safety of any building.
