Job description

CALIBRE Systems, inc., an employee owned mission focused solutions and digital transformation company, is looking to fill multiple opportunities within the Washington, DC metro area.

The VCF Design & Architecture Lead is a senior-level, customer-facing expert responsible for designing enterprise-grade VMware Cloud Foundation solutions aligned with mission objectives and long-term transformation strategies.

This role leads end-to-end architecture from discovery through design and governance while acting as a trusted advisor in complex, mission-critical environments.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead customer discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and requirements gathering
  • Design end-to-end VCF solutions, including:
    • Management and workload domains
    • NSX network & security architecture
    • vSAN storage architecture
    • SDDC Manager lifecycle integration
    • Hybrid cloud integration
  • Develop high-level and low-level designs (HLDs/LLDs), blueprints, and roadmaps
  • Define:
    • Workload segmentation strategies
    • Multi-site and disaster recovery architectures
    • Operational governance models
  • Establish migration and transformation strategies from legacy VMware environments
  • Provide leadership and governance across implementation and operational transition
  • Review and approve designs aligned with VMware validated architectures
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executives and technical stakeholders
  • Guide delivery teams to ensure accurate execution of designs
  • Support modernization initiatives (hybrid cloud, Kubernetes, automation)

Required Skills
  • Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance
  • VMware Cloud Foundation Administrator certification and/or VMware Cloud Foundation Architect certification (2V0-13.25)
  • Deep expertise in:
    • VCF, vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, SDDC Manager, VMware Aria/vRA
  • Strong experience designing enterprise-scale VCF/SDDC solutions
  • Expertise in:
    • Infrastructure architecture
    • Network virtualization
    • Storage architecture
    • Hybrid cloud strategy
    • Lifecycle management
  • Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical architectures
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • CompTIA Security+ certification (active)

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • VCAP certification (Design or Deploy) – strongly preferred
  • VMware certifications across VCF, NSX, vSAN, vSphere
  • Experience with:
    • VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure VMware Solution, GCVE
  • Familiarity with:
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
    • Automation frameworks
    • Kubernetes platforms (VKS/TKG)
  • Experience building enterprise transformation roadmaps
  • Background in DoD, federal, or regulated environments

Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or 10+ years equivalent experience
  • 10+ years VMware experience, with strong architecture focus
  • Proven success designing enterprise VCF/SDDC solutions
  • Experience producing architecture documentation and technical roadmaps
  • Demonstrated leadership in customer-facing architecture engagements
