FORESTRY TECHNICIAN (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT) - CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT / NATURAL RESOURCES / CALAVERAS BIG TREES STATE PARK
The reporting location for this position is Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold, CA. This position will work under the supervision of Forester II (Supervisory).
The Forestry Technician will conduct forest inventory surveys, implement and maintain prescribed fire monitoring plots utilizing Brown's transects and fixed plot vegetation data collection, monitor forest pest and pathogen activity, fuel moisture sampling, and other natural resource surveys and monitoring as requested. The Forestry Technician will assist in forest survey planning and be responsible for data management, data maintenance and mapping. When requested, the incumbent will participate in forest thinning, prescribed fire plot preparation, ignition operations, mop-up and tree hazard mitigation. The Forestry Technician will also be required to monitor contract activities, CalFire and/or California Conservation Corps labor crews, and power company labor crews when needed. The Forestry Technician, when required for program/project need, will be expected to work weekends and nights. Spike camping may be required. The incumbent must have the ability to obtain a Firefighter Type II qualification (training provided) and pass an arduous work capacity test that requires walking 3 miles carrying a 45-pound pack in 45 minutes or less.
Training and Development Assignments may be considered.

Working Conditions
Working conditions are physically challenging on various terrains, with often dense vegetation during varying weather conditions. Nighttime and weekend project work when required. Spike camping may be required on a project-by-project basis.
