The Forestry Commission is a government agency responsible for the protection, expansion, and sustainable management of publicly owned forests and woodlands. Its roles include conserving biodiversity, supporting timber production, providing public access to forests, and promoting forestry research and education. The organization works to balance environmental, social, and economic interests in managing forest resources. It also advises private landowners on best forestry practices and helps implement government forestry policies.

To thrive as a Forestry Commission officer, you generally need a background in forestry, environmental science, or a related field, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Familiarity with GIS mapping, forest management software, and knowledge of environmental legislation are typically important, and some roles may require certifications in chainsaw use or first aid. Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills help officers engage with stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and work safely in the field. These competencies are crucial for effective forest management, conservation, and ensuring regulatory compliance in diverse woodland environments.
