Foreign Medical Graduate Remote information

What is a foreign medical graduate remote?

Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are medical professionals who obtained their medical education outside the country where they wish to work. In remote positions, FMGs can provide medical consultations, telemedicine services, or medical research from a distance, often from another country. These roles usually require the FMG to have their credentials verified and, in many cases, to obtain appropriate licensure in the country where the remote service is provided. Remote roles can offer flexibility but may have specific requirements regarding language proficiency, technology, and legal regulations.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a foreign medical graduate working remotely?

To thrive as a Foreign Medical Graduate working remotely, you need a recognized medical degree, strong clinical knowledge, and often ECFMG certification or equivalent credentialing. Familiarity with telemedicine platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and secure communication systems is typically required. Exceptional communication skills, cultural competence, and self-motivation help you excel in virtual patient care and remote collaboration. These skills ensure effective, compliant care delivery and seamless integration into diverse healthcare teams across borders.

What challenges do foreign medical graduates face when working remotely, and how can they overcome them?

Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) working remotely often encounter challenges such as navigating different healthcare regulations, time zone differences, and adapting to virtual communication with patients or colleagues. To succeed, FMGs should familiarize themselves with the specific telemedicine guidelines and documentation requirements of the region they serve. Building strong digital communication skills and utilizing collaborative tools can help bridge gaps with remote teams. Additionally, actively seeking mentorship and continuous training can support professional growth and ensure high-quality patient care.

This full-time, remote position allows you to provide impactful mental health care through telehealth, ensuring clients receive the support they need in the comfort of their environment. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in enhancing the well-being of individuals and families by delivering high-quality therapeutic interventions.

About the Organization

Small Steps Developmental Services is recognized for its commitment to delivering exceptional mental health services to a diverse community. Our mission centers on providing comprehensive mental health care to adults, children, and families in Portland and surrounding areas. We strive to meet clients where they are, offering a full suite of therapeutic, psychopharmacological, and counseling services while ensuring the least restrictive environment possible for their care. As partners with Comprehensive Psychiatric Care, we utilize shared leadership and values to provide a robust array of resources and support systems for our clients.

Work Environment

This position operates exclusively in a telehealth setting, leveraging technology to facilitate client interactions and appointments. Our supportive culture is designed to foster work-life balance, facilitating a healthy and positive atmosphere for clinicians to thrive. You'll have access to advanced telehealth platforms that streamline the provision of services, alongside a team-oriented approach that emphasizes collaboration and shared learning among professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse caseload, establishing rapport with clients and maintaining professional ethics and boundaries.
  • Conduct regular client meetings to review progress, set stability goals, and plan for potential discharge.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor tailored, person-centered treatment plans that align with each client's unique needs.
  • Maintain meticulous and up-to-date documentation and progress notes for all clients to ensure continuity of care.
  • Facilitate thorough intake assessments to understand client backgrounds and requirements.
  • Conduct weekly individual therapy sessions and participate in supervision to continually refine your skills.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, exchanging insights and strategies to enhance client outcomes.
  • Maintain a growth mindset, actively seeking opportunities to expand your clinical knowledge and improve treatment modalities.
Patient Population / Client Focus

Your work will directly impact a varied clientele, including children, adults, and families grappling with various mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and more. At Small Steps Developmental Services, you will contribute to a safe and nurturing environment that prioritizes healing and personal growth. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that all clients, regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, or background, receive equitable care tailored to their specific circumstances.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in mental health counseling or a related field.
  • Current and unrestricted Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification.
  • A minimum of one year of post-graduate experience in a clinical outpatient environment.
  • Proficient in using technology, including Excel, RMS systems, Outlook, and PIMSY for patient management.
  • Experience conducting intake assessments and providing direct psychotherapy services to individuals and families.
Preferred Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also embracing teamwork within a clinical setting.
  • Experience in telehealth counseling or remote service provision is a plus.
  • Background in developing comprehensive treatment plans that reflect a client-centered approach.
Compensation and Benefits

This role offers a competitive annual salary ranging from USD 75,000 to 90,000, dependent on qualifications and experience. Our fee-for-service model ensures you receive guaranteed rates and timely paymentsโ€”receive compensation ahead of collections with no waiting for reimbursement. Additional financial incentives include performance bonuses.

We prioritize your work-life balance and offer comprehensive benefits that include medical, vision, and dental insurance, as well as supplemental options to address individual needs. Enjoy a 401k retirement plan with company contributions and malpractice insurance coverage. Furthermore, you'll have access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and opportunities for professional development, including the ability to earn free CEUs on various mental health topics.
