Job description

Job Description The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance function for a food manufacturing facility, ensuring reliable equipment performance, facility infrastructure, utilities, automation systems, and maintenance personnel support the plant’s production objectives. This position will oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs, capital projects, budgets, contractors, spare parts, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Manager will work closely with plant leadership, corporate engineering, and maintenance leaders across other facilities to establish technical standards, improve reliability, and support long-term plant performance. Establish, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to fully support production schedules and operational demands. Provide direct supervision and leadership to plant maintenance personnel, including day-to-day management, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, coaching, and career development. Manage plant maintenance projects and provide technical details and support for future capital projects and capital budget submissions in conjunction with corporate engineering. Manage the maintenance department budget, spare parts inventory, and procurement of maintenance parts and supplies within established company guidelines. Oversee maintenance of food manufacturing equipment, including sanitary pumps, valves, piping, cooking and cooling vessels, heat exchangers, pneumatic conveyance systems, and related processing equipment. Establish technical standards for plant equipment, maintenance practices, and vendors in alignment with company standards and specifications and in conjunction with corporate engineering. Develop and implement technical and skills-based training programs for maintenance personnel in conjunction with corporate engineering. Manage multiple engineering and maintenance projects from concept through completion. Prioritize projects in alignment with the overall plant maintenance strategy and capital plan. Manage the upkeep, reliability, and proper maintenance of site utilities and infrastructure, including: Steam boilers and steam piping/equipment Ammonia refrigeration systems HVAC systems Wastewater pre-treatment Electrical systems Compressed air systems Water supply systems Provide supervision and oversight of proper maintenance and support of plant automation systems, including servers, PLCs, operator workstations, and other automation equipment. Collaborate with maintenance managers at other company facilities and corporate engineering leadership to share best practices and improve maintenance performance. Establish departmental KPIs and use performance data to drive reliability, efficiency, cost reduction, and continuous improvement. Ensure maintenance activities support applicable food manufacturing, safety, sanitation, quality, and regulatory requirements. Manage contractors, service providers, and outside vendors associated with maintenance, facilities, utilities, and capital projects. Promote a proactive maintenance culture focused on equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, root-cause problem solving, and continuous improvement. Job Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred. 5+ years of maintenance management experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related field; or proven maintenance management track record with 15+ years of relevant maintenance experience. Experience managing maintenance personnel in a manufacturing environment. Experience with food manufacturing equipment and sanitary processing systems preferred. Strong knowledge of boiler house operations, including boilers, deaerator tanks, feedwater, chemicals, and associated processes. Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated processes. Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including transformers, distribution systems, drives, motors, and arc-flash considerations. Experience with project management, contract management, and contractor management. Strong knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, analog and digital controls, and Ethernet networks. Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems. Experience with general facilities maintenance. Knowledge of HACCP, 3-A sanitary design or EHEDG principles, and food manufacturing GMPs preferred. SAP and MP2 experience preferred.
