Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and highly skilled Food Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our food processing facility. In this role, you will oversee the daily activities of maintenance technicians, manage preventative and predictive maintenance schedules, and rapidly respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who combines strong mechanical and electrical expertise with a deep understanding of food safety regulations (GMP, SQF, HACCP, FDA). If you excel at troubleshooting complex machinery, driving continuous improvement, and mentoring a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, we want you to help keep our operations running at peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team of maintenance technicians, shift mechanics, and sanitation staff. Manage schedules, performance reviews, and daily task assignments.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Develop, implement, and oversee robust PM programs for all production equipment (mixers, conveyors, ovens, packaging machinery) and facility utilities.
  • Minimizing Downtime: Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues. Ensure emergency repairs are executed safely and swiftly.
  • Food Safety & Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities strictly adhere to food safety standards, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), and OSHA regulations.
  • CMMS Management: Utilize our Computerized Maintenance Management System to track work orders, analyze equipment performance data, and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Vendor & Budget Management: Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs and assist the Maintenance Manager in controlling departmental budgets and parts procurement.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of industrial maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role within a food manufacturing or packaging environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong working knowledge of industrial electricity (up to 480V), PLCs, motor controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, and HVAC systems.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of USDA, FDA, SQF, and HACCP compliance requirements as they relate to equipment maintenance and sanitation.
  • System Proficiency: Hands-on experience with CMMS software (e.g., Fiix, eMaint, UpKeep) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills across all levels of the plant, and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred.
