Job description

POSITION: Banquet Captain

DEPARTMENT: Food & Beverage

REPORTS TO: Food & Beverage Director

FLSA STATUS: Part-time/On call, hourly, Non-Exempt

Summary: ASM Global, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has immediate part-time/on call openings for a Banquet Captain. This position supervises and coordinates activities of banquet servers during banquets to ensure that food is served promptly. Regular attendance in conformance with the policies established by ASM Global is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Consults with Food & Beverage Manager regarding serving arrangements and if additional employee and equipment are required for a smooth event.
  • Oversees Food and Beverage operations during event to ensure client satisfaction and quality control standards.
  • Observes food being served to ensure that food is correctly garnished and arranged.
  • Trains other employees on processes and practices for food and customer service.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's/policies and applicable laws.
  • Provides direction to other team members for catering activities for the Food & Beverage Department.
  • Responsible for consumption sheets.
  • Keep linen cage stocked and cleaned.
  • Ensure coolers are clean.
  • Notify Manager when low on items such as lemons, creamers, coffee, etc.
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to get along well with others
  • Basic working knowledge of food and beverage
  • Positive attitude and neat appearance.
  • Positive customer service oriented attitude at all times
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to work standing for the duration of shift
  • Must speak and understand English.
  • Daily lifting up to 50 lbs. Up to 15 minutes at a time.
  • Tolerant to work under adverse outdoor conditions including extreme heat or cold and exposure to heavy dust, dirt and cleaning agent odors.

Other Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of direct related catering experience in a high volume work environment.
  • Excellent organization, planning, communication and customer service planning skills are a must.
  • Must have the ability to work harmoniously in a team setting exhibiting excellent customer service to fellow workers, guests, clients and the community.
  • Personal and professional initiative, enthusiasm, and dedication to excellence in wide ranging services to clients and guests.
  • Requires ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or G.E.D or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • One year's experience as a banquet server or banquet captain
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
