Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Analyst

Company: VENESCO, LLC (SSIVen JV) Location: Pentagon, Arlington, VA (On-site / In Office) Schedule: Full-Time Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 0730-1500 (Alternate hours may be required as specified by the Government)

Position Overview

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Analyst will provide advisory and assistance services to the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force (SAF), Administration and Management, Department of the Air Force Governance Division, Information Management Access Branch.

This role supports Headquarters Department of the Air Force operations by managing and executing Command-level FOIA and Privacy Act (PA) programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Air Force directives. The analyst will be responsible for processing, tracking, and closing FOIA/PA requests efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage ย ย ย ย ย the Headquarters Department of the Air Force FOIA and Privacy Act (PA) ย ย ย ย ย Programsย 
  • Process ย ย ย ย ย and track FOIA/PA requests from intake through final disposition ย 
  • Ensure ย ย ย ย ย compliance with FOIA, PA, Air Force directives, and public law ย 
  • Interpret ย ย ย ย ย and apply complex laws, regulations, and policies related to information ย ย ย ย ย access ย 
  • Coordinate ย ย ย ย ย with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather and review responsive ย ย ย ย ย documents ย 
  • Review ย ย ย ย ย records for disclosure, redaction, and release determinations ย 
  • Prepare ย ย ย ย ย written correspondence,reports, and responses to FOIA/PA requests ย 
  • Conduct ย ย ย ย ย research and analysis related to the review and declassification of ย ย ย ย ย classified records ย 
  • Negotiate ย ย ย ย ย with submitters and requestors to clarify requests and facilitate release ย ย ย ย ย decisions ย 
  • Review ย ย ย ย ย administrative audits and Inspector General (IG) reports and recommend ย ย ย ย ย corrective actions ย 
  • Work ย ย ย ย ย closely with SAF/IG and maintain strong professional working ย ย ย ย ย relationships ย 
  • Close ย ย ย ย ย an average of 15-20 FOIA/PA cases per monthย 
  • Ensure ย ย ย ย ย all requests meet intake requirements and statutory deadlines ย 


Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ย ย ย ย ย experience supporting FOIA ย and Privacy Act Programsย 
  • Strong ย ย ย ย ย working knowledge of Privacy Act exemptionsย 
  • Ability ย ย ย ย ย to interpret and apply complex federal laws and regulations ย 
  • Excellent ย ย ย ย ย written and verbal communication skills ย 
  • Strong ย ย ย ย ย organizational skills and attention to detail ย 
  • Ability ย ย ย ย ย to manage deadlines and multiple cases simultaneously ย 
  • Active ย ย ย ย ย Secret clearanceย 

Preferred Qualifications

  • TS/SCI ย ย ย ย ย clearanceย 
  • Prior military ย ย ย ย ย or Department of ย Defense experienceย 
  • Experience ย ย ย ย ย supporting ย Headquarters-level or Command-level FOIA programs
