Job Description
Position Purpose:
Veolia is seeking a dedicated FOG Operator to support the Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) management program at the Danbury Wastewater Treatment Plant. The successful candidate will ensure safe, efficient, and compliant handling of FOG materials received from haulers, while maintaining related equipment, tanks, and facilities. This role is critical to preventing FOG-related issues in the collection system and treatment processes, supporting overall plant operations and environmental compliance.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Offload incoming grease trucks in accordance with established safety and operational procedures.
  • Schedule grease truck deliveries and disposals to maintain efficient program operations.
  • Perform decanting of tanks and separate FOG materials as needed.
  • Transfer oil and processed materials to appropriate storage tanks.
  • Clean and maintain FOG-related equipment, tanks, piping, and facilities.
  • Clean and maintain the on-site pump station associated with FOG operations.
  • Conduct general housekeeping and site maintenance to ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Monitor equipment performance, report issues, and perform routine preventive maintenance.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to Veolia policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of truck schedules, offloads, transfers, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with plant operators, supervisors, and external haulers to support seamless FOG program operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support wastewater treatment plant needs.

Work Environment:
  • This position involves outdoor and indoor work at a wastewater treatment facility.
  • Candidates should be prepared for exposure to odors, noise, and varying weather.

Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Previous experience in wastewater treatment, industrial operations, maintenance, or truck offloading preferred.
  • Familiarity with FOG programs, grease handling, or pump systems is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform hands-on tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed procedures.
  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical fitness to handle lifting, climbing, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical demands of the role (lifting up to 50+ lbs, climbing ladders, etc.).
