As a floor technician, you use specialized equipment and stripping chemicals to clean, repair, and refinish floors. You can work for a cleaning service or as a member of the custodial staff at a public building, long-term care center, or similar facility. You wax and buff hard surfaces and vacuum or shampoo carpeted areas. In some roles, you specialize in the restoration of natural stone flooring, removing stains and using color matching techniques to fill holes. In these jobs, your duties may take you to several different client sites during the week. Of course, in all positions, your responsibilities include following safety procedures and handling equipment, tools, and chemicals responsibly.
