The Property Accountant will prepare financial reports to track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.  

Essential Functions 

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Full general ledger accounting for assigned Vesta properties (12-15 estimated property portfolio), ensuring accuracy of all financial data and reports, and compliance with GAAP and Vesta procedures.  
  • Prepare draft financial packages to include monthly operating reports, cash management modules, escrow funding and accounts payable point-in-time ledgers by Day 10 of each month.  
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations, record journal entries, record monthly accruals and prepaid liabilities, manage multiple bank accounts, and record fixed assets and depreciation, among various other financial tasks necessary to compile accurate and timely reporting.  
  • Reconcile bank accounts. Open and close bank accounts as needed, including posting of corresponding entries. Interact and maintain professional relationship with potentially multiple banks to resolve issues as needed.  
  • Prepare and post journal entries to record bank charges, interest earned, and miscellaneous cash receipts.  
  • Input and post payroll on a bi-weekly basis as provided by Human Resources. Process and record manual checks in an appropriate manner.  
  • Interface with external auditors. Provide appropriate G/L, A/P, A/R, and banking information as needed to support audits.  
  • Prepare financial components of budget as requested by Asset Management group in accordance with established deadlines.  
  • Prepare audit workpapers ensuring adherence to all investor, agency and company deadlines.  
  • Participate in annual balance sheet review for all assigned Vesta properties.  
  • Responsible for preparing accounting reports for current properties that are being sold or refinanced as requested by asset management.  
  • Work with Yardi to automate capture and depreciation of property fixed assets (additional cost by unit size).  
  • Need to determine fair volume of property workload for each role and transition/retain properties accordingly.  
  • Need to create standard instruction for all core processes identifying who is responsible to avoid overlap and ambiguity around expectations.  
  • Need to manage working relationships with outside parties.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related discipline. 
  • One (1) to three (3) years' experience in property management utilizing property management accounting software systems. 
  • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting. 
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Highly proficient in accounting software. 
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screening required.
  • Valid Driver's License and clean driving record required.
