Today, Erie House is a modern social service nonprofit with programming and resources for children and youth, mental health and community wellness, adult education and training, legal services, and more. Through these programs, we empower the people we work alongside to build powerful communities.

  • The roles and responsibilities of the Floater Teacher will promote early education to our most needed communities.
  • The Floater Teacher is responsible for partnering with the classroom team to provide developmentally and culturally appropriate lesson plans for the classroom in the absence of one of the regular classroom teachers
  • As part of the classroom team, the Floater Teacher works with the team to effectively manage the classroom environment
  • Promotes recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children, families, and staff in the classroom
  • Facilitates lesson plans in cooperation with the classroom team

The full-time Floater Teacher will be a position in partnership with Early Childhood Education directly impacting the West Town neighborhood.

Position Responsibilities:

Assist classroom staff in implementing of developmentally and culturally appropriate activities according to classroom lesson plans for small and large groups of children

Monitor overall health and safety of children in the classroom, reporting any signs of illness, injury or abuse to the classroom teacher

Monitor children in the classroom at all times using active supervision

Maintain current Illinois Gateways Registry membership

Maintain five hours of Gateways approved trainings per program year

Participate in 20 hours of professional development per program year

Attend monthly all staff meetings, agency meetings and in-service trainings as required

Other duties as assigned


Salary Compensation Range: $37,200-$40,200 plus excellent benefit package.

Associates degree in Early Childhood Education

Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred

Gateways Early Childhood Education credential level 4
