Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aviation Electrical/Design Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. Join a team designing innovative products that revolutionize flight through enhanced safety, performance, and features. You will apply your skills to create complex designs that include custom embedded systems, high speed interfaces, digital and analog processing, and a variety of sensor technologies using integrated and discrete solutions.
Aviation Design Engineers have ownership of the product design over its entire life from the concept phase, schematic and PCB design iterations, and throughout mass production. As well as working with a skilled, multi-disciplined engineering team, you will work with our on-site manufacturing center with capabilities that include PCB assembly, unit assembly, and acceptance testing.
Essential Functions
  • Design innovative electronic products for a broad range of aviation markets
  • Optimize design tradeoffs through research, component selection, simulation and prototyping, schematic capture, and PCB design
  • Collaborate with experts from other teams and engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Software, EMC, Certification, and Systems Engineering
  • Ensure superior product performance and safety by testing circuits and products with clear and thorough analysis and documentation of results
  • Identify technical root causes and suggest reliable solutions for a variety of problems using best engineering practices
  • Work with factory and quality assurance teams to implement designs that maximize manufacturability and long-term reliability
  • Work with our Manufacturing and Product Support teams to maintain and improve products through their life in production, repair, and customer usage
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide comments and suggestions on some electrical design aspects for circuits and technologies within your expertise

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to design and develop moderately complex analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability with electrical engineering tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design impacts on manufacturability

  • Passion for electronic design and curiosity for technology and innovative solutions to problems
  • Ability to work autonomously to engineer solutions to complex tasks, projects, and technical problems

  • Ability to serve as a technical leader of projects to ensure successful execution of projects in alignment with cost, schedule, and other business objectives
  • Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
