Flight Deck Design & Human Factors Engineer
PDS Tech Commercial | Partnering with a Global Aerospace Leader

The Opportunity

PDS Tech Commercial is partnering with a leading aerospace organization to support the next generation of aircraft development. We are seeking a Flight Deck Design & Human Factors Engineer to play a critical role in cockpit interface design, usability, and human-centered engineering as testing ramps up next summer.

In this role, your work will directly influence flight crew experience, safety, and operational excellence—helping shape how pilots interact with advanced aircraft systems.

  • Pay Rate: $65–$95/hour

  • Duration: 18–24 months

  • Location: Hybrid (minimum 3 days onsite; fully onsite during testing phases)

  • Mobility: Occasional business travel


Your Impact

You will contribute to multiple programs, supporting flight deck system development through user-centered design, human factors analysis, and hands-on testing. Your expertise will help ensure cockpit interfaces are intuitive, efficient, and aligned with operational and regulatory expectations.


What You’ll Do Day to Day

  • Participate in Flight Deck and Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and evaluation through prototyping, simulation, analysis, and usability testing

  • Apply cognitive and physical ergonomics expertise to support testing and human factors analyses

  • Develop and conduct scenario-based testing of flight deck systems

  • Build and maintain system HMI simulations

  • Collaborate directly with flight crews to assess cockpit physical and cognitive usability

  • Support requirements development, task analysis, and human error analysis

  • Contribute to UX development and evaluation in alignment with established flight deck design philosophies

  • Create and manage human factors documentation for new aircraft, cockpit modifications, and sustaining programs

  • Collaborate with human factors specialists across maintenance, manufacturing, and maintainability teams


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Industrial Design

  • Degree in Ergonomics (physical and/or cognitive) or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience related to flight deck systems, avionics development, or systems integration

  • Practical experience with cognitive ergonomics (decision-making, workload, situation awareness, human error) and physical ergonomics (anthropometry, reach, vision, strength)

  • Experience using computer-based tools for prototyping, interface development, and simulation

  • Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills

  • Ability to plan and execute validation and verification testing

  • English fluency required


Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of French

  • Aerospace industry experience with avionics, system controls, propulsion, or other aircraft systems

  • Familiarity with the aerospace regulatory environment

  • Experience supporting test campaigns and certification activities
