How much do flight physician jobs pay per year?
What is the difference between Flight Physician vs Emergency Medicine Physician?
| Aspect | Flight Physician | Emergency Medicine Physician |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Medical Degree, Medical License, often additional certifications in aviation or critical care | Medical Degree, Medical License, Board Certification in Emergency Medicine |
| Work Environment | Air ambulance, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, remote locations | Hospital emergency departments, urgent care centers |
| Employer & Industry | Air medical services, hospitals with transport teams | Hospitals, emergency clinics, urgent care facilities |
Flight Physicians and Emergency Medicine Physicians both require medical degrees and licenses. Flight Physicians specialize in providing medical care during air transport, often working in aircraft and remote settings. Emergency Medicine Physicians work primarily in hospital emergency departments, managing acute illnesses and injuries. While their skills overlap in critical care, their work environments and specific roles differ significantly.
What Does a Flight Physician Do?
As a flight physician, your job is to provide medical treatment to a patient while onboard an aircraft. In this role, you may conduct an assessment of their needs, perform surgeries or other treatments, coordinate a small care team, and otherwise help provide the best possible care while patients are moving to a healthcare facility. Flight physicians frequently work with patients who have urgent medical needs and cannot wait for treatment. Since they work in the occasionally rough environment of air travel, flight physicians often have a very challenging job. Some flight physicians work for the military and treat injured soldiers. This is fundamentally the same job, but the military usually refers to this position as flight surgeon instead of flight physician.
What are flight physicians and what do they do?
What are the typical challenges faced by a Flight Physician when providing care during air medical transports?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flight Physician, and why are they important?
