Job description

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in San Valley, CA! About the Role: We are seeking a highly experienced Special Education tutor to work one-on-one with a nonverbal student with multiple disabilities who communicates primarily through facial expressions, eye gaze, and individualized behavioral cues. The student has complex learning and communication needs and requires a tutor who is highly observant, patient, and skilled in interpreting nontraditional forms of communication.
The student benefits from structured, hands-on instruction and requires consistent support in general academic areas, including functional literacy, functional math, and executive functioning skills. Experience using manipulatives and multi-sensory learning strategies is essential, particularly for functional academic tasks. The student thrives in a calm, predictable environment with strong consistency, clear routines, and supportive redirection to maintain engagement and participation.

  • Mondays to Fridays between 3-5PM
  • Hours: 160 hours, Mondays to Fridays between 3-5PM
  • Subjects: Grade General Academic Assistance & Executive Functioning

Key Responsibilities:
    • Provide individualized instruction in general academic assistance, functional academics, and executive functioning skills
    • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of a nonverbal student with multiple disabilities
    • Utilize hands-on learning activities and manipulatives to support engagement and skill development
    • Recognize and respond to the student's individualized communication methods
    • Support functional literacy, math, problem-solving, and independent living skills
    • Create structured, accessible, and engaging learning experiences
    • Collaborate with facility staff and support providers to ensure consistency across environments
    • Monitor progress and adjust instructional strategies based on the student's needs and responses

Qualifications:
    • Extensive experience working with nonverbal students with multiple disabilities
    • Strong special education background and experience providing individualized academic support
    • Skilled in interpreting nontraditional communication methods, including facial expressions, eye gaze, and other individualized cues
    • Experience teaching students with significant developmental, physical, and communication challenges
    • Comfortable adapting curriculum and instruction to meet highly individualized learning needs
    • Experienced in using manipulatives and hands-on materials, particularly for functional math and life skills instruction
    • Patient, observant, flexible, and able to build trust with students who communicate in unique ways
    • Open to a flexible tutoring schedule
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills with caregivers, facility staff, and support teams
