We are seeking an engineering-focused Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support the development and quality assurance of enterprise-grade .NET Core and Azure-based applications. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer with experience in automation, API/backend validation, cloud environments, and modern quality engineering practices. This is an engineering-first SDET role rather than a traditional manual QA position. Candidates should demonstrate strong software engineering fundamentals alongside automation expertise, particularly within .NET Core and Azure environments.ย

Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to pass federal and local background investigations.
  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days/week onsite in Rockville, MD.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or test automation.
  • Strong programming experience with C#, .NET Core/.NET.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks MsTest or NUnit.
  • Experience testing web applications, REST APIs, distributed systems, and Azure-hosted applications.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Git workflows, SQL/database validation, and backend testing.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and root-cause analysis skills.
  • Understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and modern quality engineering practices.
  • Ability to perform targeted manual exploratory and edge-case testing when needed.
    ย
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Azure services including App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Service Bus, Application Insights, and Azure Monitor.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), OAuth, OIDC, and RBAC.ย
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized environments.
  • Experience with performance, load, or reliability testing.
  • Experience testing AI-enabled or machine learning-powered applications.
  • Familiarity with regulated or compliance-driven environments (FedRAMP, NIST, etc.).
ย
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and quality engineering infrastructure.
  • Create automated UI, API, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, product owners, and technical teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and technical design discussions with a quality-first mindset.
  • Troubleshoot defects, perform root-cause analysis, and support resolution efforts.
  • Validate APIs, backend services, authentication flows, data integrity, and cloud-based system integrations.
  • Build reusable testing utilities, mocks, fixtures, and automation tooling.
  • Support performance, reliability, security, and scalability testing initiatives.
  • Continuously improve automation coverage, testing processes, and engineering best practices.
