Job description

Recovery Center Driver

The Recovery Center Driver provides safe and timely transportation for incoming and outgoing residents, as well as other authorized transportation as directed by the Clinical Director. This position serves as a frontline representative of Recovery Centers of Montana (RCM) and plays a vital role in client access to care. Transportation routes primarily serve the Flathead Valley but may extend to locations statewide, including Billings, Missoula, Wolf Point, and all RCM facility locations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Transport clients safely and on schedule to and from designated pickup and drop-off locations throughout Montana
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and therapeutic relationship with all residents during transport
  • Report any resident needs, requests, or behavioral concerns to oncoming shift staff verbally and in writing via the daily log
  • Document disruptive behavior or policy violations occurring during shifts in the appropriate log system
  • Communicate relevant client information and shift concerns to fellow staff members to ensure continuity of care
  • Assess conflict situations involving residents and contact supervisors as needed
  • Adhere to all RCM policies and procedures, including those governing the therapeutic milieu and daily routines
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by a supervisor

Attendance and Scheduling

Drivers are expected to maintain flexible hours that accommodate client scheduling needs. Staff meetings and training sessions may require schedule adjustments. Permanent schedule changes will be communicated in writing, including the reason for the change. Scheduling decisions are the responsibility of the employer and are based on the operational needs of the agency and the people it serves.

Requirements

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Mental health or behavioral health experience a plus

Personal experience relevant to substance use disorder recovery services is valued

Licensure and Clearances

Current, valid Montana driver's license

Proof of current auto insurance

Clear criminal background check required prior to hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to assess and respond appropriately to the needs of adults in recovery

Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a residential treatment setting

Understanding of addiction, behavioral health, and the diverse backgrounds of clients served

Demonstrates healthy interpersonal skills, adaptability, a positive self-concept, and a genuine sense of humor

Empathy and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to support trusting relationships with residents

Ability to recognize and respond to a crisis situation, including making appropriate referrals

Positive teamwork skills with staff, clients, and community resources

Basic computer skills sufficient to complete documentation requirements

Availability beyond regularly scheduled hours to support team needs as required

Working Conditions

Frequent driving, including long-distance travel throughout Montana

Contact with individuals in various stages of substance use disorder recovery

May encounter emotionally charged or conflict situations requiring calm, professional de-escalation

Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and variable hours based on client needs
