How much do flexible micro soldering jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for flexible micro soldering in the United States is $20.44, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.55 and $22.12 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is flexible micro soldering?

Flexible micro soldering is a specialized technique used to repair or connect extremely small electronic components, often on flexible circuit boards or delicate devices like smartphones and medical equipment. This process requires precision tools and skills to handle tiny connections without damaging surrounding parts. Technicians use microscopes and fine-tipped soldering irons or hot air rework stations to perform these repairs. It's crucial for maintaining or restoring functionality in miniaturized electronics where traditional soldering methods would be too large or imprecise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flexible micro soldering technician?

To thrive as a Flexible Micro Soldering Technician, you need excellent hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, and experience with precision soldering techniques, often supported by technical training or certification in electronics assembly. Familiarity with tools such as microscopes, hot air rework stations, and ESD-safe equipment, as well as IPC certification, is typically required. Patience, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently under magnification make someone stand out in this role. These skills are crucial to ensure the accuracy and reliability of delicate electronic assemblies, preventing costly errors and maintaining high-quality standards.

What is the difference between Flexible Micro Soldering vs Electronics Assembler?

AspectFlexible Micro SolderingElectronics Assembler
CertificationsIPC J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721Typically IPC certifications, but less specialized
Work EnvironmentCleanroom, precision work on small componentsAssembly lines, larger electronic devices
Industry UsageConsumer electronics, medical devices, aerospaceConsumer electronics, appliances, industrial equipment

Flexible Micro Soldering involves precise, small-scale soldering on tiny components, often requiring specialized certifications and working in controlled environments. Electronics Assemblers perform broader assembly tasks on larger components and devices. While both roles are essential in electronics manufacturing, Flexible Micro Soldering demands higher precision and specialized skills, making it more focused on micro-level work.

What are some common challenges faced in a flexible micro soldering role, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in Flexible Micro Soldering often work with delicate components and require steady hands and keen attention to detail to avoid damaging tiny circuit elements. A common challenge is maintaining precision and consistency during repetitive tasks, especially under time constraints. To manage these challenges, it's important to use high-quality tools, maintain a well-lit and clean workspace, and take regular breaks to reduce eye strain and fatigue. Additionally, collaborating with quality assurance teams helps ensure final products meet strict standards, offering continuous learning opportunities.
