Job description

The Medical Records Clerk will be responsible for managing the medical records of the facility, including preparing, storing, and retrieving patient health records. The medical record clerk reviews medical records for compliance with approved policies. Works independently or as part of a medical records department. Instill the IMS mission, vision and values in the work performed.
Responsibilities:

  • Compiles, processes, and maintains patient charts by completing assigned portion of daily audit trail; corrects and communicates problems according to established procedures
  • Processes patient and 3rd party incoming and outgoing health record requests by following established procedures
  • Update patient charts including organizing and filing incoming health records by following established routing procedures
  • Ensures all medical records including in-office testing are assembled in standard order, labeled appropriately, accurately, and completely
  • Keeps health care providers and clinical staff informed by communicating availability or unavailability of the record
  • Request hospital records for providers and clinical staff and upload them to electronic health records
  • Process incoming faxes
  • Maintains patient confidence by keeping patient records of information confidential
  • Perform general clerical tasks such as answering phones, responding to emails, and assisting with any other administrative duties
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, and healthcare facilities regarding medical records
Required Knowledge/Skills:
  • At least 1 year of medical office or electronic filing experience
  • Previous experience with Athena system a plus
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and organize tasks and workflow
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to take initiative, work well with an established team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer skills using Microsoft software, scheduling software, and email applications
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate's degree in health information technology preferred.
