The Certified Peer Recovery Support or Recovery Coach is an individual who has had significant life-altering experiences (referred to as lived experience) with substance use and is living in recovery. The Recovery Coach will assist and guide peers/_families toward the identification and achievement of specific goals defined by the peer and/_or family to increase the peer’s “Recovery Capital”. The goal being to increase likelihood of achieving long-term recovery for the peer. The work involves a variety of tasks working collaboratively with staff of all levels to help facilitate peer success. The Recovery Coach will promote pro-social community activities, recovery (as defined by the philosophy “of any positive change”), self-advocacy, self-help, and development of a strong support system. The work will be performed in a wide range of settings, including the Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery office locations, community-based settings, community agencies, or other locations as defined by the employer.

The Recovery Coach is a non-clinical position in the field of recovery support services. The qualified candidate will serve as a role model, coach, advocate and motivator to individuals in or seeking recovery from substance use disorder. The Coach must demonstrate an ability to share personal experiences and to develop authentic peer relationships. CPRS is a certification designation issued by ICB (Illinois Certification Board). Once hired, the candidate, if not already certified, will have 18 months from date of hire to complete ICB CPRS Certification. They must also hold the following beliefs and demonstrate the following qualities:

• Genuine hope and optimism that peers will succeed
• Ability to see each person as an individual
• Willingness to share own recovery experience
• Ability to remain flexible to engage people based on their level of receptivity, individual needs and understanding that peer-based services will change at different points of the process
• Embrace SAMHSA’s principles of recovery

ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery to intake and provide services to candidates involved with or at risk for opioid usage and Substance Use Disorder.
• Make connections with above individuals via phone, internet and in-person visits
• Conduct interviews with above individuals to discuss treatment barriers, create recovery plans and provide connection to resources, encouragement, support, and accountability.
• Utilize relationship building, selective self-disclosure and strengths-based approach.
• Work with outside agencies to support, address and facilitate needs of peers and/or families in a positive life-sustaining direction or towards a self-reliant lifestyle.
• Compile and share resources to peers and other community agencies.
• Document visits, contacts, follow-up, and referrals to other services in accord with individual recovery plan
• Brainstorm and communicate with SVVOR staff on the development of new recovery strategies for the peer
• with appropriate release, Interface with family members or other involved parties for the purpose of maintaining or enhancing a person's functioning recovery.
• Participate in staffing, recovery plan review, and case conferences.
• Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical/personal information and treatment, both internally and externally.
• Adhere to deliverable timelines, both internally and externally.
• Work in a variety of settings, providing support, guidance, and education for individuals or groups as assigned
• Participate in meetings, conferences, and committees as assigned internally and externally
• Represent the Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery in a professional and positive manner in alignment with corporate messaging and platforms
• Maintain constant professional ethical standards by observing guidelines established by the Employer
• Continue to self-educate by planning, executing, and achieving certification (when applicable) via a personal training program to improve additional skills through webinars, recovery training programs, IL CPRS/CRSS training and other peer related activities to enhance job performance.
• Accurately complete reports and paperwork as required; i.e. contact logs, peer files/records, internal and external required communications, expense reimbursement vouchers and any other documents necessary to the fulfillment of PSA duties.
• Communicate effectively with the team for purposes of consultation and information sharing.
• Perform other related duties and/or projects as required.
• Conduct trainings on related subjects to outside groups in person and via video-call

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• Associate degree or Bachelor preferred
• Must have lived experience with SUD and have 365 consecutive days or more continuous sobriety
• Possess ability to work with vulnerable populations in a non-judgmental manner and ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Use good judgment and maintain effective boundaries.
• Fully support the mission and philosophy of Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery in all aspects of job performance, internally and externally.
• Provide excellent customer service and organizational skills.
• Must be comfortable in changing environments
• Knowledge of a variety of recovery processes and support multiple paths to recovery
• Ability to teach and engage in basic problem-solving strategies.
• Must be a licensed and insurable driver

Hours: Generally Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm however there may be work outside those times

Pay: Salary of $42,300 plus benefits
