Join our Ports & Terminals Group to support planning initiatives for major container terminals, bulk and break-bulk facilities, offshore wind support facilities, cruise terminals, and other port assets. You will lead and support multidisciplinary teams in developing long-range port master plans, facility plans, terminal expansion/optimization strategies, capacity analyses, and operations plans for port authorities, terminal operators, and stevedores. This role involves close collaboration with transportation planning professionals and participation across multiple project teams.
As an employee with Hatch, you will work alongside industry experts, contribute to high-impact client projects, and grow within an organization committed to innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
• Serve as Engagement Manager, Deputy Engagement Manager, or Lead Planner on a variety of projects, overseeing workstreams, deliverables, budgets, client interactions, and issue resolution within Hatch's project governance framework.
• Apply sound planning principles to deliver efficient and cost-effective, solutions in complex, multivariable, and multidisciplinary environments.
• Conduct road, rail, and marine operations and infrastructure planning efforts in alignment with established standards, quality objectives, and client needs.• Collect, analyze, and interpret planning and operational data to support project objectives.
• Prepare and review reports, technical memoranda, presentations, schedules, maps, figures, diagrams, and models.
• Lead and contribute to proposals, proposal interview materials, and other business development materials.
• Build client relationships, promote Hatch's services, and identify new business opportunities.
• Support staff development, management, and recruitment activities.
Qualifications:
• Masters degree in transportation or transportation planning; urban, regional, or city planning; or civil, marine, or mechanical engineering.
• 5+ years' experience in land use or transportation planning, including planning studies, terminal capacity assessments, debottlenecking, and optimization studies.
• Proven ability to execute and collaborate across multiple concurrent projects. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information, including technical details, clearly and effectively.
• An entrepreneurial "can do" mindset with the ability to work under real-world constraints.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and PowerPoint essential); basic familiarity with ArcGIS and/or QGIS.
• Preferred knowledge of:
o Maritime industry, common cargo types (e.g., containers, Ro/Ro, bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo) and marine facilities (e.g., container terminals, cruise terminals, bulk material handling facilities, offshore wind support facilities, etc.).
o US freight transportation and logistics networks, including, specifically, the interconnection between North American ports and marine terminals, steamship lines, Class I railroads, and trucking companies.
Base Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
