Heavy Equipment Operator - Railroad Maintenance
Location: Miami/Medley, Florida
Pay: $22.00-$25.00 per hour, based on experience
Job Type: Full-time
Put Your Equipment Experience to Work on the Railroad
Road & Rail Services is hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our railroad maintenance team in the Miami/Medley area.
In this position, you will operate construction and rail-related equipment while helping crews repair and maintain railroad tracks. Candidates with maintenance-of-way experience are encouraged to apply, but previous railroad experience is not required. If you have a strong background operating heavy equipment in construction, civil, or industrial environments, we can provide training for the rail-specific portions of the job.
This is an outdoor, physically active opportunity for a dependable operator who values safety, teamwork, and quality workmanship.
What You'll Do
Operate backhoes, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment safely
Support railroad track construction, repair, and maintenance projects
Assist crews with track surfacing, rail repairs, and tie replacement
Inspect equipment and report mechanical problems or safety concerns
Help identify visible track conditions requiring attention
Follow applicable FRA requirements and company safety procedures
Coordinate with crew members to complete assignments safely and on schedule
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
Perform additional track-maintenance duties as assigned
What You'll Need
At least four years of heavy-equipment operating experience
Experience in construction, civil, industrial, or a comparable work environment
Strong awareness of surrounding equipment, employees, and job-site hazards
Commitment to following established safety procedures
Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors
Dependable attendance and a consistent work history
Ability to work effectively as part of a crew
Preferred Experience
Railroad maintenance-of-way or track-maintenance experience
Experience operating tampers, regulators, or rail-adapted equipment
Knowledge of FRA-regulated railroad operations
