Headquartered in Pigeon, Michigan, our family-owned corporation is focused on providing communication and technology services to rural Michigan communities, including those in the Thumb and Northern regions of the state.
Are you seeking for an opportunity with one of the Thumb area's top employers? If so, AVCI has a current opening for a Service Technician in Pigeon, MI.
The Broadband Service Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of residential and small business broadband services. This includes fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) systems and fixed wireless broadband infrastructure. The role involves field installations, customer equipment setup, signal testing, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and ensuring installations meet company standards for quality and safety.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Installs and activates residential and small business broadband services, including fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and fixed wireless broadband systems.
  • Configures and connects optical network unit (ONUs), routers, Wi-Fi equipment, and related mounting and networking hardware.
  • Performs site surveys to determine optimal installation location, signal paths and mounting requirements.
  • Mounts, aims, and aligns wireless antennas and radios to achieve optimal signal quality and service performance.
  • Routes, secures, and terminates indoor and outdoor network cabling in accordance with company standards.
  • Tests fiber optic signals, wireless signal strength, and overall network connectivity to verify proper operation.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves service or connectivity issues encountered during installation or service visits and escalates.
  • Coordinates with network group and Tier 2 when escalation or advanced troubleshooting is required.
  • Maintains clean, professional work practices at customer locations and ensures installations meet company quality standards.
  • Provides customers with basic instruction on the operation of installed equipment and internet services.
  • Follows all safety procedures when working at heights, on rooftops, or around electrical systems.
  • Documents completed work, equipment usage, and service details in company systems.
  • Maintains company vehicles, tools, and testing equipment in good working condition.

Travel Requirements: Daily travel throughout company service area is required.
Work Environment: This position operates according to daily workload and may be outdoors in all weather conditions and all types of terrain or indoors in a professional office environment. Dress should be appropriate for daily workload and must meet safety requirements.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time regular position. Hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Successfully complete and maintain climbing certification.
  • High-comfort level with heights, climbing ladders and TV towers, navigating roofs as well as confined spaces/crawlspaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Experience using power tools.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively with little supervision required.
  • Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or snow.
  • Possess good troubleshooting and organizational skills.
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and meets MDOT requirements for medium duty commercial vehicles.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment background screening.
