What does a flex security officer do?

A flex security officer is responsible for monitoring and protecting property, enforcing security protocols, and ensuring safety within a designated area. They may perform patrols, monitor surveillance systems, check credentials, and respond to incidents, often working flexible shifts. Basic security training and sometimes a security license are required for this role.

Is being a flex security guard worth it?

Flex security guards provide security services on a temporary or as-needed basis, often with flexible schedules and varied assignments. The role can offer income and experience, but may lack consistent hours and benefits compared to full-time security positions.

How does working as a Flex Security Officer differ from a traditional fixed-post security role?

As a Flex Security Officer, you'll be assigned to various sites as needed, often covering shifts at short notice or filling in for absent team members. This means your daily responsibilities and work environment can change frequently, requiring adaptability and strong situational awareness. You'll gain exposure to different security protocols and client needs, which can accelerate your learning and expand your skillset. Flex roles also offer opportunities to network with diverse teams and may lead to faster advancement into supervisory or specialized security positions.

What is the highest paid security job?

The highest paid security jobs typically include security directors, chief security officers, or cybersecurity executives, with salaries often exceeding six figures. These roles require extensive experience, leadership skills, and often certifications such as CISSP or CISM, and they oversee security strategies across organizations or industries.

They are trained to adapt quickly to different environments and security protocols, filling in for regular security staff or covering temporary needs. This role requires versatility, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work varying schedules. Flex Security officers help ensure that all locations maintain consistent safety and security standards, even during unexpected absences or increased demand.

How many hours do flex officers work?

Flex security officers typically work shifts that range from 4 to 12 hours, depending on the assignment and employer needs. They often have variable schedules, including day, night, or weekend shifts, and may work part-time or full-time hours based on staffing requirements and their availability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flex Security Officer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flex Security Officer, you need a solid understanding of security protocols, incident response, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often accompanied by a state-issued security license. Familiarity with surveillance systems, access control tools, and incident reporting software is typically required. Flex Officer Explanation

The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company's operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel.

Scheduling Expectations

The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:

  • You will be trained at various posts and/or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
  • Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
  • You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
  • Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
  • You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. If you know you will be unavailable on an upcoming date or time that would normally fall within your availability described on this sheet, you must communicate this with your supervisor, so they know not to schedule you.

For short-notice call-ins, you are expected to work at least 80% of the shifts for which you are called. If you refuse more than 20% of shifts for which you are called in, this could negatively impact your employment status with the company.

A Security Officer may perform a multitude of duties as specified by the Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The Security Officer will read and become extremely knowledgeable of Post Orders and SOP and will be able to act quickly and efficiently according to such directives.
