Flex Developer information

What is a flex developer?

A Flex Developer is a software developer who specializes in building applications using Adobe Flex, a framework for creating rich internet applications (RIAs) that run on Adobe Flash Player or Adobe AIR. They use ActionScript, MXML, and other web technologies to develop interactive and multimedia-rich user interfaces. Flex Developers often work on enterprise applications, dashboards, or media-heavy applications that require a high level of engagement. Although Adobe has discontinued support for Flash Player, some legacy systems still require Flex expertise.

What are the typical projects or responsibilities for a flex developer?

Flex Developers are commonly responsible for designing, coding, and maintaining interactive applications using Adobe Flex, often integrating these with back-end services and databases. They typically collaborate with UI/UX designers to implement visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces, and work hand-in-hand with QA teams to troubleshoot and resolve application bugs. Projects may range from internal enterprise dashboards to customer-facing web applications, depending on the organization's focus. Additionally, Flex Developers are often expected to stay updated with evolving frameworks and contribute to optimizing existing applications for better performance and scalability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flex developer?

To thrive as a Flex Developer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages such as ActionScript and frameworks like Adobe Flex, along with experience in UI/UX development for web and desktop applications. Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Adobe Flash Builder and knowledge of related technologies like XML, Java, or web services is important, and certifications in software development can be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective collaboration with designers and back-end developers are highly valued soft skills. These qualifications are essential to efficiently build, maintain, and enhance dynamic, user-friendly enterprise applications that meet client requirements.

Job description

Are you interested in building high-performance, globally scalable last mile delivery systems? Are you looking for a team where you can innovate and challenge the status quo? Does the prospect of designing products used by over a million customers around the world get you excited? If so, Amazon Flex is for you!
Come help Amazon delight our customers by delivering packages faster and in more places than ever before. At Amazon, we're working to be the most Customer-centric company on earth. One customer experience that we're constantly looking to take to a new level is how we fulfill and deliver their orders. Our goal is to exceed the expectations of all our customers by ensuring that their orders, no matter how large or small, are delivered where and when they need them, as quickly, accurately, and cost effectively as possible. To meet this goal, Amazon is continually striving to innovate and provide best in class service levels through the introduction of pioneering new products and services in the last mile delivery space. We are doing this by building a world class last mile operation, significantly complimented by Amazon Flex. Amazon Flex works directly with independent contractors - called delivery partners - to make deliveries to our customers. With Amazon Flex, individuals can be their own boss delivering Amazon packages.
The Role
We are looking for a dynamic leader to own the Offers product portfolio. Flex Offers is the system that determines which delivery opportunities are presented to Delivery Partners (DPs), including what blocks are shown, when, and to whom. The Flex Offers and Pricing team owns the end-to-end
experience of offer generation, validation, and presentation - shaping how millions of delivery blocks reach DPs across the network. This is a highly strategic role, where you will get to both build features from the ground up, as well as augment existing features to improve user experience across the account lifecycle.
As the leader for this domain, you will set long-term strategy and vision, collaborate with multiple cross functional stakeholders, develop scalable mechanism to expand our products world-wide and deliver products and solutions that delight delivery partners.
The right candidate will possess a well-rounded product background and a track record on defining and launching large products / programs. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. You will be able to support your team in anticipating bottlenecks, providing escalation management, anticipating and making tradeoffs, and balancing the business needs versus technical constraints. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.
Key job responsibilities
1. Define a multi-year product vision and strategy to meet the needs of various businesses we support.
2. Develop and manage high quality product roadmaps to realize the product vision.
3. Manage prioritization and trade-off between regulatory constraints, time to market, cost, scale, and delivery partner experience.
4. Create program goals and related metrics, track progress and own business reviews with business leadership and key stakeholders.
5. Evangelize product vision among multiple Amazon teams and influence them to deliver on specific capabilities needed to accomplish team's goals.
6. Work closely with engineering, science and other stakeholders to build and innovate in this space.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
- Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

- Experience in building and driving adoption of new tools
- Experience performing statistical analysis of data using SQL, Excel and other tools
- Experience with concepts such as system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making
