is seeking applicants for
Fleet Technician I

Department: Office of Budget and Management

Work Hours: 8:45 p.m. - 7:15 a.m., Monday through Thursday
Starting Rate: $30.00/hour
Eligibility Requirements: Open to All Applicants
Union: IAMAW District 9 Fleet

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and skilled repairs on gasoline, diesel, alternative fuel vehicles, construction equipment, and small engine equipment.
  • Complete fabrication and welding projects, as well as component replacement and adjustments to ensure safe and reliable equipment operation.
  • Diagnose, repair, and rebuild engines, braking systems, suspension, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, air conditioning, and other vehicle components.
  • Respond to roadside service calls to perform emergency repairs, including jump-starts, flat tire replacement, and other field maintenance as needed.

Required Qualifications:The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by at least two years ofvocational or technical training in automotive repair, and a minimum of threeyears of automotive repair experience, or an equivalent combination ofeducation and experience. The successful candidate will possess a validCommercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class A, B, or C with required endorsements)or gain possession within six months of hire and provide their own hand toolsnecessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.
To be eligible to apply, current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.
