Flagship Store Director information

What is a flagship store director?

A Flagship Store Director is a senior manager responsible for overseeing the operations, brand representation, and overall performance of a company's primary retail location, often considered the brand's showcase store. They lead large teams, manage budgets, drive sales, and ensure exceptional customer experiences that reflect the brand’s identity and values. Additionally, they collaborate with corporate leadership on strategy and serve as a key point of contact for promotions, events, and new product launches. Their goal is to set a standard for other stores and strengthen the brand's market presence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flagship store director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagship Store Director, you need strong leadership, retail management experience, and a track record in driving sales and operational excellence, often supported by a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and retail analytics tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and customer service orientation are crucial soft skills for inspiring teams and delivering a premium brand experience. These competencies are important for optimizing store performance, building customer loyalty, and achieving business goals in a highly visible retail environment.

What are some common challenges faced by a flagship store director, and how can they be effectively managed?

A Flagship Store Director often faces challenges such as maintaining high standards of brand representation, managing a large and diverse team, and delivering exceptional customer experiences in a high-visibility environment. Balancing operational efficiency with creative brand initiatives requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Successful directors prioritize clear communication, ongoing staff training, and proactive engagement with both customers and corporate headquarters to ensure the store remains a showcase for the brand. Building a collaborative culture and staying adaptable to changing retail trends are crucial for overcoming these challenges.

Job description

Location: Bethesda, MD — in-office, 5 days/week

Reports to: Brand & Production Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

Experience: 2-3 years

About Blueme

Blueme is a wellness fragrance brand building thoughtful, research-backed scent experiences — including an IRB-approved smell study and an ongoing research partnership with the UMass Sleep Center on the efficacy of our sleep fragrance. We're a passionate, innovative, and ambitious team based in Bethesda, MD, and we care deeply about how we show up to our customers and consumers.

Role Overview

We're looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Marketing Specialist to create, implement, and optimize PR strategies that drive brand awareness and customer engagement across digital channels, PR and influencer relationships, consumer research, and in-store activations. The ideal candidate is creative, data-driven, and equally comfortable briefing an influencer, or analyzing focus group results. This is a hands-on role reporting directly to the Brand & Production Manager.

Responsibilities

•    Content Strategy & Execution: Generate compelling content aligned with brand goals across social, email, and promotional materials

•    PR & Influencer Marketing: Build and manage relationships with press and influencers; coordinate outreach, gifting, and partnerships that build brand credibility and reach

•    Social Media Management: Manage and grow our presence across platforms — creating and scheduling posts, responding to comments, and analyzing performance

•    Email Marketing: Design, execute, and optimize email campaigns to nurture leads, retain customers, and drive conversion

•    Analytics & Reporting: Monitor and report on campaign performance using tools like Google Analytics, ensuring KPIs and ROI goals are met

•    Market Research: Lead consumer market research, focus groups, and competitor tracking to inform brand and product decisions

•    Events: Plan and execute activations at our flagship store

•    Collaboration: Partner closely with the Brand & Production Manager on campaign timing, messaging, and brand consistency

Qualifications

•    Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field

•    2-3 years of experience in digital marketing, PR, or a related role — beauty, fragrance, or DTC experience preferred

•    Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Klaviyo)

•    Familiarity with analytics and reporting tools such as Google Analytics

•    Understanding of PR fundamentals and the influencer marketing landscape

•    Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

•    Creative mindset with a keen eye for design and branding

•    Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

•    Experience running focus groups or consumer research

•    Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

•    Familiarity with HTML/CSS and website platforms such as WordPress

•    Event planning experience

What we're looking for

Blueme is a small startup team, and this role is built accordingly — we're looking for someone who's genuinely energized by that, not just tolerant of it.

•    Comfortable wearing many hats and shifting priorities on short notice — one day might be focus group analysis, the next is styling a store activation

•    Resourceful and self-directed; you won't have a large team or deep process to lean on, so you build what's needed as you go

•    Genuinely excited to work in-person — this role is based in our Bethesda, MD office 5 days a week, and being in the room with the team and product is part of how we work

•    Calm under ambiguity and able to reprioritize without losing momentum

•    Invested in growing with a small brand, not just executing a fixed job description

What we offer

•    Competitive pay

•    Opportunities for professional growth and learning

•    A collaborative and innovative work environment
