Job description

DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Fitness Operations Supervisor, the Fitness Attendant shall provide supervision and basic equipment instruction, conduct facility tours, complete necessary laundry duties and provide cleaning of fitness area equipment at the Hunt Club Fitness Center and FitNation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Understand and follow safety rules and regulations detailed in the Park District Personnel Policy Manual.
  2. Follow Daily Duties Checklist and complete all items during assigned shift.
  3. Address patron concerns and complaints in a positive and understanding manner. Take notes of patron complaints and respond in a respectful and courteous manner. Report all issues that cannot be resolved immediately to the Fitness Operations Supervisor or Senior Supervisor/Coordinator/Team Member on Duty.
  4. Reports equipment or facility issues or requests for repairs to Fitness Operations Supervisor. Use appropriate forms.
  5. Works cooperatively with fellow staff and general public.
  6. Maintenance, laundry, and cleaning responsibilities will be required of each Fitness Attendant and will be monitored routinely.
  7. Responsible for the appearance and upkeep of the fitness facilities. All equipment must be sanitized and maintained free of dust and dirt throughout the shift.
  8. Assists patrons in machine usage and addresses general fitness questions.
  9. Monitors fitness facilities to ensure that patrons are complying with rules and regulations for patron safety.
  10. Works all shifts when assigned at both fitness facilities, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
  11. Must safely operate and perform light maintenance on, or be trained to operate and perform light maintenance on, a variety of complicated equipment such as heavy fitness equipment.
  12. Must safely utilize, or be trained to safely utilize, small equipment including but not limited to ladders, hand trucks, pallet jacks, hand tools, cables, cleaning solutions and pool chemicals.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Perform all other duties as assigned
  2. Maintain a positive attitude toward all co-workers and patrons.
  3. Dress appropriately in uniform.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  5. Maintain professionalism at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience: Must have a general knowledge of, or be coachable in the safe and functionally correct use of fitness equipment.
  • Education: Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and pursuing or completed a High School diploma.
  • Skills: Must possess the ability to understand, assess, address and/or direct patron concerns or questions in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Certifications: Must maintain current First-Aid, CPR, and AED certifications. Gurnee Park District will provide training.
  • Competencies: High School level reading comprehension and ability to communicate effectively in person or via technology as situationally necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
  2. Read handwritten information and write legibly.
  3. Duties may include lifting, twisting, bending and squatting.
  4. 100% of the work day will be on your feet.
