Job description

Description GENERAL PURPOSE: The purpose of the Coconut Creek Internship Program is to strengthen relationships between educators and the City of Coconut Creek while assisting students in applying classroom theory in a work environment. The Intern can expect to be assigned duties and responsibilities that are comparable to those performed by full-time, Fitness Specialist employees. Interns will be able to visit and work within all areas of service that the department offers in the Fitness area.

Work is performed under close supervision of the Supervisor, Senior Fitness Specialist and Fitness Specialist(s). SCHEDULE: Must be available to work morning/afternoon/evenings (Monday -Friday), Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and special events. Days/hours are subject to change.

Shifts will give the student a well-rounded view of all areas which constitute the Fitness Division. Major scheduling emphasis will be placed in the area that most closely parallels the professional goals of the student. Essential Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Oversees, plans and implements fitness and wellness incentive programs, health fairs, and all other health and wellness programs Designs fitness programs Performs fitness assessments for new members and performs follow-up assessments as necessary Provides direction and assistance to users of the fitness facility Serves as a personal trainer as needed Conducts fitness classes, wellness lectures, and special events Assists in the operation of a physical fitness facility, and the development of fitness and wellness activities Assists in all phases of marketing fitness programs and distribution of printed materials Performs everyday maintenance tasks within the fitness area Performs other related duties as assigned and/or required Qualifications Eligible to work in the United States Enrolled as a degree-seeking student by an accredited local college or technical school carrying at least a half-time academic course load Must have a valid Florida driver's license Must have current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and AED certifications (or be able to obtain them before 1st day of employment) Must maintain an active status as student throughout internship Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 Must be in good academic standing Must attach current official or unofficial transcript to be included with online application Must submit a resume and cover letter to be included with online application Supplemental Information PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling

Tasks may involve extended periods of time standing. ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Tasks are regularly performed inside without potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances. SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Some tasks require manual dexterity, in addition to visual and hearing acuity.
