About the role:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company's safety policies and procedures. This role works closely with the Safety Director to promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by providing technical expertise, ensuring regulatory compliance, and assisting with safety training and audits. The Safety Specialist will serve as a resource for all stakeholders, offering support and guidance on all matters related to environment, health and safety.

Principal accountabilities:

    Assist in the development, review, and implementation of safety policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Perform routine inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Support the coordination and facilitation of safety training programs, such as First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and proper handling of chemicals.
  • Maintain records of safety inspections, accident investigations, and other compliance documentation, including the OSHA 300 log.
  • Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Provide guidance to employees and management on best practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Director and HR in managing the Worker's Compensation Program, including accident prevention and return-to-work programs.
  • Participate in the organization's Safety Committee and contribute to the ongoing improvement of safety culture.
  • Stay informed of updates to local, state, and federal safety regulations and ensure company policies are aligned with these changes.
  • Assist with the preparation of safety reports and provide updates to the Safety Director on the status of safety initiatives.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management practices and interpretation of OHSA and Workers Compensation regulations.
  • 2+ years' experience in safety management, safety coordination, safety engineering, and/or risk management in a relevant industry.
  • CSP, CIH, ARM and CHST certifications preferred.
