Job description

Bakery Material Handler

The Bakery Material Handler is responsible for ensuring all dough ingredients, toppings, packaging supplies, and raw materials are accurately staged and delivered to the bakery production lines. This role supports the Mixing, Sheeting/Press, Baking, Cooling, and Packaging departments by maintaining continuous material flow, removing finished product, and assisting operators throughout production.

Schedule: This position may require up to six (6) days of work per week based on business needs and operational demands

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Material Staging:

  • Stage raw materials in designated areas to ensure availability for production lines.
  • Verify materials against production schedules or instructions to ensure accuracy.

Packing and Palletizing:

  • Assist in packing products into boxes, trays, or containers following production specifications.
  • Manually stack and palletize finished goods, ensuring they are securely wrapped, labeled, and prepared for storage or shipment.

Production Support:

  • Assist machine operators by manually providing materials, removing finished products, or troubleshooting minor issues as needed.
  • Support production lines through tasks such as sorting, inspecting, and assembling products.

Quality Assurance:

  • Conduct visual inspections to confirm materials and finished goods meet quality and safety standards.
  • Report any material discrepancies, damaged goods, or quality issues to supervisors immediately.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all company safety rules, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe lifting techniques.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and maintain food safety and hygiene standards at all times.

Flexibility and Adaptability:

  • Be prepared to switch between tasks or production areas based on operational demands.
  • Take on more detailed or physically intensive assignments, such as rework or manual product sorting.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Accurately complete production logs, quality checklists, and material usage records.
  • Communicate any issues related to materials, equipment, or workflow to supervisors promptly.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work collaboratively with team members, machine operators, and supervisors to achieve production goals.
  • Provide clear and effective communication regarding work progress and any issues.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support overall production objectives.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in mechanical equipment preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing or similar production environments is preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes accurately.
  • Attention to detail to ensure consistent product quality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, lift, and move for extended periods in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and handling repetitive tasks.
  • Comfortable working in environments with varying temperatures.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of GMPs and food safety protocols is preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Compliance with safety requirements, including PPE such as safety footwear, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
  • Capability to work in variable temperatures and handle physical tasks like lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing or walking for extended periods and maneuvering around equipment.

Work Environment:

This position works in a manufacturing environment with variable temperature and loud noises from machinery and equipment alarms. The incumbent will be exposed to loud noises and alarms from equipment and machinery. Some tasks may require additional safety measures to ensure the safe completion of the task.
