Staff Development & Training Specialist
Full-Time | Monday-Friday Residential Care - Direct Support Professional Workforce
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Staff Development & Training Specialist to lead onboarding, orientation, and ongoing education for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a Residential Care setting. This role ensures new DSPs are fully prepared, confident, and compliant with all safety, regulatory, and agency standards.
Key Responsibilities
DSP Orientation - Deliver comprehensive onboarding covering mission, values, person-centered practices, rights, safety, and residential care expectations. Training Delivery - Teach First Aid, CPR, emergency response, infection control, and other required competencies. Regulatory Compliance - Provide training aligned with state licensing rules, incident reporting, documentation standards, and DSP core competencies. HR Collaboration - Coordinate with Human Resources on new hire scheduling, onboarding workflows, credential tracking, and corrective action training needs. Program Management - Maintain training records, monitor compliance deadlines, and prepare reports for audits or licensing reviews. Curriculum Improvement - Evaluate training effectiveness and update curriculum to strengthen DSP performance and retention.
Qualifications
Relevant Experience in training, staff development, healthcare, IDD services, or human services. Certification as a First Aid/CPR Instructor, or willingness to obtain. Strong understanding of IDD support principles, residential care operations, and safety protocols. Excellent communication, facilitation, and coaching skills. Ability to manage multiple training cohorts and compliance requirements. Familiarity with learning management systems and documentation tools.
