Job description

Insurance Defense Attorney (First-Party Property Litigation)

Location: Kingwood, TX or Broward County, FL (Hybrid Available)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join our growing litigation team. This position focuses on defending first-party property insurance claims and homeowners insurance litigation from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate will have experience representing insurance carriers in coverage disputes, bad faith claims, and property damage litigation while managing an independent caseload in a fast-paced environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney seeking a collaborative team environment, meaningful litigation experience, and a healthy work-life balance. A hybrid work arrangement is available for qualified candidates with significant homeowners insurance defense experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of first-party property insurance defense matters from pre-suit through trial.
  • Represent insurance carriers in homeowners insurance litigation involving coverage disputes, breach of contract, and bad faith claims.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents.
  • Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, experts, and corporate representatives.
  • Attend hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and court appearances.
  • Evaluate claims, analyze liability and damages, and provide legal recommendations to clients.
  • Collaborate with insurance adjusters, experts, and clients to develop effective defense strategies.
  • Negotiate settlements when appropriate while protecting client interests.
  • Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with litigation deadlines and court procedures.
  • Provide regular case evaluations, status reports, and litigation updates to clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas or Florida (or eligibility for admission).
  • Experience defending first-party property insurance claims.
  • Strong knowledge of homeowners insurance litigation and insurance coverage issues.
  • Experience handling all phases of civil litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, and trial preparation.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and case management abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage a litigation caseload while collaborating with a team.
  • Professional communication and client relationship management skills.
