Job description

Join Our Team as a Firefighter
The Town of Hilton Head Island is looking for Firefighter/EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of firefighting, emergency response, public education, and related duties. The department responds to approximately 9700 incidents a year, with approximately 7300 being EMS related responses.
What You Will Do
  • Respond to fire, emergency medical, and other emergency situations and carry out fire firefighting activities and other duties
  • Assume a designated position on an assigned apparatus and follows instructions
  • Participate in the preparation of pre-fire plans for occupancies in the Town
  • Administer aid in accordance with EMS protocols consistent with EMT certification level
  • May perform as a Relief Operator on a temporary basis
  • May serve as a member of the Special Operations Teams
  • Participate in all required training activities to enhance and maintain skills and certifications
  • Complete all required reports in a timely and professional manner
  • Participate in daily apparatus inspections and maintenance activities
  • Perform physical fitness training to maintain physical abilities necessary for firefighting and other emergency response situations
  • Perform building and ground maintenance activities to ensure that facilities are maintained in a clean and safe environment
Qualifications
  • To be eligible, must have IFSAC/ProBoard Firefighter I amp; II certification and National Registry EMT
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire
  • Must be in good physical health as determined by a medical examination
  • Valid Driver's License

    • Firefighter/Paramedic (IFSAC or ProBoard Accredited Firefighter II): $66,111 (with earning potential up to $80,370)
  • Sign-on bonuses will be paid to certified Firefighters ($2,500), EMTs ($2,500) and Paramedics ($10,000) whose credentials are transferable or have reciprocity
