RMA Technician / Gunsmith

Location: Gunnison, UT
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 40 hours per week (Fridays as business needs require)
Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience

Position Overview

Christensen Arms is seeking a skilled RMA Technician/Gunsmith to join our Manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, testing, and documenting firearm issues received through our Return Material Authorization (RMA) process. You will work closely with Quality, Customer Service, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure every firearm meets Christensen Arms' high standards for quality, accuracy, and performance.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, extensive firearm knowledge, excellent troubleshooting skills, and takes pride in delivering exceptional workmanship.


Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair firearms returned through the RMA process.
  • Perform firearm assembly, disassembly, fitting, and functional testing.
  • Operate manual machine tools, including mills and lathes, to manufacture or modify firearm components.
  • Test fire repaired firearms and consistently demonstrate the ability to produce MOA accuracy while following established testing procedures.
  • Document repairs, testing results, and corrective actions using Microsoft Excel and company ERP/software systems.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly with Customer Service, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Analyze customer returns and identify recurring trends to support continuous product improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team by providing accurate repair data and technical reports.
  • Recommend and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve product quality, repair efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain firearms, tooling, and testing equipment in safe and operational condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree, Technical Certificate, Gunsmithing Certificate, or equivalent vocational training in Gunsmithing, Machining, Firearms Technology, or a related field is required.
  • Professional gunsmithing experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of firearm diagnostics, repair, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Experience operating manual mills and lathes.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Remington 700 and Remington 700-style actions
    • AR-15 and AR-10 platforms
    • 1911 pistols
    • Headspace measurement and inspection
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, gauges, and borescopes.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and ERP or manufacturing software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a firearms manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with quality documentation and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of firearm accuracy testing and ballistics.
