Position Summary
The Fire Protection Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business and expanding existing client relationships within the Central Virginia and Hampton Roads markets. This individual will estimate and propose fire alarm and fire sprinkler inspection services and construction projects, while ensuring compliance with NFPA standards. The role requires a strong mix of technical knowledge, client-facing sales experience, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities Business Development & Sales
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new opportunities for inspection, service, and construction contracts.
  • Develop relationships with general contractors, building owners, facility managers, and AHJs.
  • Conduct site visits and needs assessments to determine client requirements.
  • Prepare and present proposals tailored to client needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, and activities in CRM software.
  • Meet or exceed established sales targets and performance metrics.
  • Represent the company at networking events, pre-bid meetings, and industry trade shows.

Estimating & Proposal Development
  • Review RFPs and construction documents for scope, specifications, and general conditions.
  • Perform takeoffs and prepare cost estimates for fire alarm and fire sprinkler inspection contracts and projects.
  • Solicit pricing from subcontractors and vendors; analyze quotes for completeness and compliance.
  • Coordinate bid strategy with company leadership and participate in bid reviews.
  • Develop scope narratives and assist with subcontractor and material procurement planning.
  • Assist with pre-construction planning and turnover meetings to operations teams.
  • Enter estimates into project management/job costing systems

Technical & Compliance Knowledge
  • Understand layout, design, and code requirements of fire protection systems.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NFPA codes, including NFPA 13, 14, 20, and 24.
  • Utilize hydraulic calculation and estimating software tools effectively.
  • Support internal teams with fire protection expertise during project execution.

Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years of experience in the fire protection industry, including construction or service sales.
  • 1+ years of estimating or pre-construction experience.
  • Familiarity with fire protection systems and layouts.
  • General understanding of financial metrics and job costing.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA codes (13, 14, 20, 24).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities independently.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening including drug test and background checks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for the Fire Protection Sales Manager

Preferred
  • NICET Level II or higher in Sprinkler or Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., HydraCAD, AutoCAD, Accubid).
  • CRM system experience (e.g., Bidtracer, Field Connect).
  • Prior military service.

Working Conditions Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with standard business hours.
  • Frequent site visits to commercial buildings, industrial plants, and active construction sites.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk construction sites, climb stairs or ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or equipment under 30 lbs may be required.

Travel
  • Local travel within territory required; overnight travel is infrequent but may be necessary for training or client meetings.
