POSITION SUMMARY
A Fire Sprinkler Designer is an entry-level position where the individual works closely with the Design Team to develop the skills required to create detailed plans and specifications for the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems. While developing the necessary skills, the Fire Sprinkler Designer will be creating plans under the supervision of the Design Team. The Fire Sprinkler Designer reports to the Design Manager.
OBJECTIVES
  • Embrace the Ironsmith Fire slogan of "OLD SCHOOL GRIT, NEW AGE EDGE". This includes having that old school work ethic, while embracing new technologies and devices that drive innovation and job optimization.
  • Develop the skill to analyze building blueprints and specifications to determine the most effective placement and type of sprinkler system required.
  • Thorough analysis of construction documents, including plans and specifications, to ensure we deliver the product our customers expect.
  • Learn to perform basic hydraulic calculations to determine water flow, pressure, and pipe sizing requirements for fire sprinkler systems.
  • Support design tasks such as selecting appropriate sprinkler heads, pipes, valves, and other components based on project requirements.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and calculations.
  • Coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and local authorities to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with other trades to ensure our installation goes as smoothly as possible, helping our field teams to avoid conflicts on the jobsite. This includes BIM coordination on projects where it is required.
  • Prepare shop drawings that are complete and ACCURATE.
  • Prepare and submit closeout documents as required by the project.
  • Prepare detailed stocklist for purchasing to order the materials needed for the job.
  • Be disciplined in utilizing design checklists to ensure required information is on the project documents.
  • Complete submittal packages prepared and delivered to the Authority Having Jurisdiction, customers, and any other required entities for that project.
  • Present yourself professionally and attend project meetings leading up to the start of construction, and as required after construction has begun.
  • Collaborate with fabrication teams to ensure the correct material is making it to the field.
  • Assist in conducting site visits and inspections to verify that the installed system meets design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in training programs and workshops to develop technical skills and knowledge in fire protection engineering and design.
  • Must submit and release at set deadlines to ensure our team stays on schedule as the project progresses.
  • The designer's punctuality and attention to project schedule is crucial for the success of our field team getting to start the job on time.
  • You must be results-driven and carry a sense of urgency of achieving those results.
  • Work closely with the Design Manager to analyze metrics and KPI's associated with this position to assess progress towards goals and identify areas for improvement.

Job Requirements
COMPETENCIES
  • Familiarity of fire protection systems, building codes, local regulations, and industry standards is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail is necessary to ensure accuracy in calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to ensure completion of all duties and tasks assigned to maintain project schedules.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
  • A Passion for fire protection engineering and a desire to develop technical skills and knowledge in the field.
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Hydraulic Calculation software, and Microsoft Office Suite.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in business administration, engineering technology, or a closely related field is preferred, but not required. โ€ข Experience in fire sprinkler design or NICET Level I is a plus. โ€ข Basic understanding of the fire protection industry and applicable regulations.
