Fire Alarm TechnicianJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 05/13/2026 CLOSING DATE: 06/18/2026 04:00 PM POSTING NUMBER: 053566 LOCATION: Maintenance Department - 930 POSITION TITLE: Fire Alarm Technician
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision assist in the maintaining, repair, and service for the District's Life/Safety equipment related to school facilities. Oversee subcontractors to meet specifications and schedules related to Life/Safety equipment maintenance and installation throughout the District. Life/Safety equipment may include but not limited to Fire Alarms, Fire Sprinklers, Fire Backflow, Kitchen Hoods, Fire Extinguishers, 12/24-volt electronics such as; amplifiers, speakers, scoreboards, sound systems, elevators, chair lifts, and other equipment related to low voltage technology. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all Life/Safety systems in District facilities.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Ability to maintain, repair, and service of fire alarm equipment.
  2. Intermediate understanding of building, fire and electrical codes.
  3. Intermediate understanding of mechanical and electrical drawings and symbols.
  4. Ability to analyze system drawings and schematics.
  5. Intermediate understanding of electrical installation practices and requirements.
  6. Intermediate understanding of fire and security systems, access or other building or electronic control systems.
  7. Fire alarm product knowledge required for equipment used in school facilities.
  8. Pulling of wires in race ways.
  9. Attend training programs related to service of fire alarm equipment.
  10. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Life Safety Supervisor.
  11. Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
  12. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  13. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  14. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  15. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  16. Ability to install, maintain and service electronics, amplifiers, speakers, scoreboards, sound systems, and other equipment related to low voltage technology.
  17. Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor.
  18. Maintain confidentiality.
  19. Maintain regular attendance.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
  • One year of experience in fire alarm or low voltage maintenance, repair, service of fire alarm panels, smoke detectors, and devices related to fire alarm systems in commercial buildings or school facilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Texas Certified Licensed Fire Alarm Technician or obtain within one year of employment date
  • Valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Basic computer skills in database, word processor and spreadsheet applications and programming for fire alarm equipment systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material related to fire alarm systems
  • Must be capable of operating power tools
  • Must be able to follow instructions and willing to learn
  • Must be able to work at elevated heights on ladders or lifts up to 50 feet and access flat rooftops up to 3 stories in height

Light truck or van.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel.
