Summary: 

  • Performs various stress analyses of metallic and composite structures to determine structural integrity using classical techniques and finite element models or simulations.

  • Utilizes finite element analysis and classical hand analysis to determine structural integrity and perform analyses of internal loads, free body diagrams, stresses, and component life.

  • Supports structural modifications, systems integration, weapons development, reverse engineering of OEM components, and material review board (MRB) related activities.

  • Reviews and creates drawings, reports, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, completeness, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

  • Develops structural design criteria consistent with program objectives.

  • Generates and manages finite element models (FEM) to simulate and verify design concepts and predict mechanical behavior.

  • Provides mechanical design recommendations based on structural design principles and analysis results.

  • Participates in and supports test activities and presents substantiation data to demonstrate compliance with requirements and specifications.

  • Applies knowledge of aerospace fabrication practices, tolerances, and design standards for machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.

  • Applies knowledge of DOD and FAA program structural and environmental load requirements.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR).

  • Bachelor’s degree in any Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college or university with three to eight (3-8) years of professional engineering experience, or a minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience without a degree.

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) modelling software such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, PATRAN, and ABAQUS.

  • Experience in structural analysis and airworthiness substantiation.

  • Experience with DOD and/or FAA program structural and environmental load requirements.

  • Knowledge of aerospace drafting standards and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Experience with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.

  • Ability to perform stress analyses using classical techniques and free body diagrams.

  • Knowledge of aerospace surface treatments and metallurgy.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (Secret, TS, or TS/SCI).
