How much do finite element analysis jobs pay per hour?
What is a finite element analysis?
A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) job involves using computer simulations to evaluate how products or systems respond to physical forces such as stress, heat, and vibration. Engineers in this role use specialized software like ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks to create models and analyze their behavior under various conditions. FEA helps optimize designs, reduce material costs, and ensure structural integrity before manufacturing. This role is common in industries like automotive, aerospace, and civil engineering.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in finite element analysis?
To thrive in Finite Element Analysis, you need a strong background in mechanical or structural engineering principles, mathematics, and a solid understanding of physics, typically backed by an engineering degree. Proficiency with FEA software like ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL, and familiarity with CAD tools and programming languages such as Python or MATLAB, are important assets. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills make candidates stand out in this analytical role. These skills are crucial for producing accurate simulations, optimizing designs, and effectively conveying complex technical findings to multidisciplinary teams.
What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in finite element analysis?
Professionals in Finite Element Analysis often encounter challenges such as managing complex simulation models, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of their results, and interpreting data to provide meaningful engineering insights. You may also need to troubleshoot issues related to meshing, material properties, and boundary conditions, which require both technical expertise and patience. Regular collaboration with design, manufacturing, and testing teams helps address these challenges more effectively and leads to better end products. Developing strong analytical and communication skills can further help you thrive when working through the intricate details and interdisciplinary demands of the role.

Conducting test preparation and support execution of testing or test-related activities, including developing and writing test plans and reports
Job description
nLogic is seeking an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer to support anticipated work in the Fort Eustis, VA area. This role is aligned with upcoming proposal efforts and will play a key part in providing analysis and testing support to develop multiple stress and test reports and flight test instrumentation plans for multiple army aircraft projects, contingent upon contract award.
In this role, you will contribute to mission-critical efforts by applying your expertise in aerospace mechanical engineering while working alongside government and industry partners in a collaborative environment. This is an opportunity to be considered early for a high-impact effort supporting critical defense missions.
Responsibilities
Providing systems engineering and analysis support in the definition of technical performance measures used in test and evaluation, and for post-test data collection and analysis. Examples include but are not limited to subsystem or system level simulation evaluation, human-in-the-loop evaluation or field testing of multiple aircraft types, or representative avionics, mission computers, sensors, or weapons system.
Assisting in the development of modeling and simulation system environments, system architectures, and system verification plans for various R&D activities of the TDD-SID.
Generating substantiation documentation, designs, and drawings to support integration of candidate solutions onto U.S. Army aviation platforms. This work may be conducted independently or as a member of a larger team of designers and engineers. Substantiation packages must be in accordance with identified airworthiness requirements for particular aircraft platforms.
- Conducting test preparation and support execution of testing or test-related activities for various R&D activities of the SID.
Aiding in developing and writing test plans and test reports and executing tests in accordance with developed test plans. Preparing structural load test plans that show detailed knowledge of airframe considered and expected load paths. Examples of other testing will include, but not be limited to, material testing, sub-component to full system testing, and environmental / electromagnetic testing (temperature, altitude, humidity, vibration, shock, electromagnetic interference and compatibility testing) in accordance with military and other appropriate engineering standards.
Creating stress and test reports that demonstrate that the "considered design" is in compliance with the original Prime Item Development Specifications, applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, and/or required maneuver, crash and fatigue loads for the applicable airframe.
Analyzing Resonance Assessment Profiles (RAP) testing and vibrational data collection and identifying potential resonance within 5% of rotor harmonics
Traveling up to 25% in support of mission requirements in the form of site surveys, technical interchange meetings, training, testing support, and other critical tasks outside of the JBLE facilities. This includes assisting with equipment packing and movement as per mission requirements.
