Job Description
Are you looking to wake up surrounded by the towering sandstone cliffs and lush forests of the Red River Gorge? FIND Outdoors is seeking a dedicated, friendly, and adventure-loving individual (or couple) to join our team at the Gladie Cultural & Environmental Center. This is a unique opportunity to live and work in one of the most iconic natural landscapes in Kentucky while helping us provide top-tier stewardship and education to our visitors.
About FIND Outdoors:
FIND is a 50+-year-old nonprofit located in Pisgah Forest, NC who provides all people with educational, recreational and interpretive opportunities about natural resources and cultural history, and the Cradle of Forestry in America. FIND Outdoors serves over 1 million visitors each year with over 275 educational and recreational programs, special events, and tours, and manages 15 recreation, education and camping facilities in North Carolina, and Georgia. In addition, FIND offers our visitors forest-related gifts, educational resources and provides partnership opportunities for the health of our forests and safety of our forest users on public and private lands.
Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and assist visitors upon arrival, directing them to the relevant section of the Red River Gorge Geological Area according to their needs.
  • Assist in the operation of the information desk, providing visitors with information, maps, and local history.
  • Assist in managing parking lot density and ensuring visitors are parked in designated areas
  • Perform routine bathroom cleaning daily to FIND standards, identifying hazards, removing graffiti, washing/treating all signage, tables, and boardwalks.
  • Assist with routine safety inspections and patrols.
  • Act as support to the Site Manager in areas of public contact and security.
  • Interpretive duties available for those with interest or education in leading educational talks as it relates to local flora, fauna, and/or cultural history.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Site Manager


Qualifications of a successful candidate:

  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as both part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to meet the public and communicate effectively both in person and on the telephone, providing information regarding services and/or programs. Ability to walk up to 1/2 mile daily and lift twenty (20) lbs.
  • Possess camping trailer or motor home in good condition.

Schedule & Compensation:
The site host will work 24 hours (3 days a week), with weekends required during the busy season (spring through fall) to help manage high visitor volume. Site hosts will receive a full-hookup campsite (water, sewer, and electric), a flexible schedule, and an employee discount.
