What does a financial product manager do?

A financial product manager oversees the development, strategy, and lifecycle of financial products such as loans, investments, or banking services. They analyze market trends, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure products meet regulatory standards and customer needs. Strong analytical skills, knowledge of financial regulations, and proficiency with product management tools are essential in this role.

How does a financial product manager collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring new financial products to market?

Financial Product Managers work closely with teams across the organization—including engineering, marketing, compliance, and sales—to guide new financial products from concept to launch. They are responsible for communicating product requirements, aligning stakeholders on project goals, and ensuring regulatory guidelines are met. This role often involves leading cross-functional meetings, resolving competing priorities, and acting as the central point of contact for all product-related matters. Successful collaboration requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to translate technical and business needs into actionable plans.

Can I become a financial product manager with a finance degree?

A finance degree provides a strong foundation for a financial product manager role, as it covers key concepts like financial analysis, modeling, and understanding financial markets. However, gaining experience in product development, project management, or related skills, along with certifications such as CFA or PMP, can enhance prospects. Employers often value practical experience and technical skills alongside a finance degree for this position.

To thrive as a Financial Product Manager, you need a strong background in finance, product lifecycle management, and market analysis, often supported by a degree in finance, business, or a related field. What you'll be part of:

Circle is committed to visibility and stability in everything we do. As we grow as an organization, we're expanding into some of the world's strongest jurisdictions. Speed and efficiency are motivators for our success and our employees live by our company values: High Integrity, Future Forward, Multistakeholder, Mindful, and Driven by Excellence. We have built a flexible work environment where new ideas are encouraged and everyone is a stakeholder.

What you'll be responsible for

As a Principal Product Manager on Circle's Digital Assets team, you will own the long-term product strategy for Circle's digital asset and capital markets platform, shaping how liquidity, lending, and capital access are delivered globally across Circle's stablecoin ecosystem. You will operate as the authoritative product leader for this domain, balancing regulatory constraints, institutional counterparty needs, and evolving market dynamics to unlock scalable growth. In close partnership with executive stakeholders, engineering leadership, compliance, treasury, and external partners, you will define vision, drive alignment, and make high-impact tradeoffs to ensure Circle's digital asset infrastructure supports increasing volumes, new markets, and future product expansion.

What you'll work on
  • Own and evolve the long-term product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Circle's digital assets and capital markets platform, ensuring alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead highly complex, cross-functional product initiatives spanning engineering, treasury, compliance, legal, data, and external partners, driving clarity and execution in ambiguous environments.

  • Translate the needs of global digital asset liquidity providers, institutional counterparties, and internal stakeholders into durable platform capabilities, product themes, and prioritized investment areas.

  • Identify systemic risks across digital asset markets, capital access, and on-chain/off-chain operations, and proactively design mitigation strategies supported by data, tooling, and operational processes.

  • Partner closely with data science and analytics to define forecasting, modeling, and decision-support systems for digital asset flows, liquidity optimization, and capital efficiency.

  • Influence senior leadership and executive stakeholders through clear narratives, tradeoff framing, and outcome-driven recommendations to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Mentor and coach other product managers, raising the overall quality of product thinking, execution, and customer focus across the organization

What you'll bring to Circle
  • 8+ years of product management experience, including ownership of complex, revenue-generating platforms or products in digital assets, financial services, or similarly regulated domains.

  • Proven experience defining and owning product strategy for highly complex, multi-stakeholder digital asset or financial infrastructure products operating at global scale.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, cross-company initiatives and influence without authority across engineering, compliance, treasury, and executive leadership.

  • Strong track record of identifying, prioritizing, and managing product, operational, and market risks in regulated environments.

  • Deep analytical mindset with comfort leveraging data, models, and metrics to inform strategy and decision-making.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders around a shared vision and clear priorities.

Preferred Requirements
  • Direct experience building products for digital asset markets, institutional trading, liquidity, lending, treasury, or payments infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with crypto-native financial systems, stablecoins, and blockchain-based market infrastructure.
