Job description

The primary duties of the Operations Manager involve planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of an Environmental Field Service Center. This role encompasses the implementation of corporate policies, oversight of daily operations, and the formulation of developmental strategies, particularly in relation to assessing competitors and pursuing new contract opportunities. 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Develop and grow the office into a recognized regional player in the Environmental Services industry
  • Provide guidance to Field Team Members in various tasks related to emergency response, hazardous waste management, industrial cleaning, site remediation, equipment decontamination, and hazardous materials management.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the assigned service office to ensure quality and budget performance
  • Track budgetary allocations, operating costs, and established key performance indicators (KPIs), making necessary adjustments to processes and procedures to meet performance targets.
  • Monitor project timelines and deliverables to ensure successful completion.
  • Direct operations with a focus on safety, compliance, optimal equipment use, maintenance, and efficient management of labor and material costs.
  • Prepare and participate in regular P&L reviews to ensure that the operation is achieving budgeted and profitable growth
  • Manage personnel matters, including recruitment, coaching, discipline, training, and performance evaluation of team members
  • Collaborate with Sales and Leadership teams to devise and execute strategies aimed at achieving business objectives.
  • Oversee and report on the budget and financial performance of the operations department.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Team Members staff to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
  • Implement and maintain effective communication channels with all departments to promote a cohesive work environment.
  • Identify and initiate process improvements to increase productivity, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
  • Be available after normal office hours and weekends for emergency response situations
  • Review project paperwork, timecards, drivers’ logs, and invoices including, monitoring hours worked to maintain compliance with company and DOT policies
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and health and safety regulations

Qualifications: 

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Engineering or Business field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management or a related field.
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements and delivering results.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial performance.
  • Knowledge of waste management or environmental services industry is a plus
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER certification preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Local and regional travel with periodic corporate events requiring travel by air
  • Expert working knowledge of the environmental industry best practices and associated government regulatory procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills to build relationships with clients and direct reports
