Job Description

SUMMARY: The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Indianapolis invites applications for the Adjunct Faculty in Mathematics, with an expected start date in August 2025. The successful candidate will teach gateway mathematics courses including elementary and intermediate algebra, college algebra, and finite mathematics. Opportunities for rehire in Winter 2026 are available based on demand and department needs; in Winter, available courses may also include elementary statistics.

This is a part-time role with a maximum teaching load of 14 credit hours in Fall and Winter semesters.

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in mathematics or related field, OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, or related field

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Deliver courses with clear outcomes, meaningful assignments, and transparent, timely assessment.
  • Model effective teaching and professionalism
  • Manage inclusive and engaging learning environments
  • Be flexible and responsive in teaching and conducting weekly office hours

Qualifications - Adjunct Faculty in Mathematics
  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or a related field required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field and commensurate professional experience in Actuarial Science
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching is preferred
  • Experience teaching mathematics courses at the undergraduate level is a plus
Responsibilities - Adjunct Faculty in Mathematics
  • Based on expertise, teaching a variety of gateway mathematics courses, such as Algebra, Finite Mathematics, and Elementary Statistics, and upper-level courses related to the Actuarial Science curriculum, including Math 325 (Review for Exam P) and Math 356 (Financial Mathematics)
  • Teaches up to 14 hours in one academic year
